He says Miami 2-14 is things go horrible and 6-10 if things go great! Good grief, what an idiot!
Idiot ?? No, realist...yes...
Question: Will the OL be markedly enough improved to make one of our poor QBs adequate and running room for our RBs ??
Look at it this way...what significant thing has been done to improve the OL ?? Nothing...yes, we added Stockar McDougle and HH...but HH won't be playing. Our OL was HORRIBLE last year...so perhaps they are just bad this year (and that would be an improvement), but it serves our QBs and RBs very little...We have improved the quality of the RBs but they still need some holes.
Question: Will Daniels be able to adequately fill in for the loss of Surtain ??
Well, Daniels, IMO, will be a good DB...the question is will it happen this year or next year. Will opposing O's pick on him until he cracks...Or will they pick on both Madison and Daniels to see who cracks first ?? The DBs in Saban's defense don't have to be the great cover corners that JJ/Wanny wanted, but they do have to be good tacklers. Madison doesn't fit that mold and has been slipping a little each year...If that gets exposed....
Question: Will Brown and Williams be the answer to our RB situation ??
That's easy to say, based on their current stature...but when the reality of his suspension sets in, will Williams go back on walkabout ?? He is one toke away from a year long suspension and will probably be tested the max number of times, given his situation around "retiring" last year. Brown is a rookie and looks very good. Can he hold up all year long (you know, the rookie wall)...Will he learn the nuances of the position to be effectively used by Linehan..I can't tell yet by his 7 carries (or whatever it was)...
Question: QB..will one of these guys distinguish themselves as a starting caliber NFL QB ??
I was sure that by now, AJ would have wrested the job from Gus...he may still but either way, he hasn't done anything to make last year's results look like a fluke. Then again, Gus hasn't either. Gus is a career backup QB and is nothing more. He has proven that at every stop in his NFL career. What has either guy shown, so far in minicamps and preseason to make any of us think that they are any better than Ears/AJ were last season ?? Yes, we have a real NFL offensive scheme and a real coordinator. But is that enough ??
Question: How long will it take for the D to adjust to Saban's scheme ??
On the surface, that looks like a dumb statement...since they have seemingly done well since the Chi game (not allowing 1st team scores)...but ZT and JT and SM and Jr. (arguably our best defensive players from last year) have not played in this scheme before...Ok, Jr. played in a similar scheme early in his career in SD. Is Crowder smart enough to pick up this D and utilize his potential skills ?? Can JT adjust and become as dominate an OE as he was a speed rushing DE ?? I think this is the area that we will not have too many questions in and they will adjust easily, but...will everyone adjust...Will Carter and Holliday be able to convert (the've always been in a 4-3 scheme). Still questions though...
While there are other questions abounding, the main idea here is that there is no proof YET that we have improved. You can't use the preseason results completely (good or bad). The most disturbing trend in the preseason was the inability of the first team O to consistently move the ball and score. Defensively, we seemed to do ok, but it is only preseason...So, the idea that we may only be 4-12 is not that far fetched or stupid...That doesn't mean though, that we won't be a better team...but with the changes in both the O and the D, the schedule we are faced with, and the fact that the AFCE is the best division in football indicate that a 4 or 5 win season could be all we can hope for.
BTW...forget about that "we were in every game except one last year" nonsense...We did not have the resiliency to win those games last year. I will readily admit that most of that was due to poor coaching, poor schemes and general dissarray of the organization. This is what I meant by being 4-12 again and still being a better team...we will be a better team...whether the record shows that is another thing though...
