Miami with $50+ mill in cap space in 2013 (next offseason)

the thing about reggie bush is you got to know when to get out...if he plays at a high level again this year and can stay healthy i can see giving him another 2 year deal for around what he makes now but the longer you go with that contract and the more guaranteed money you put out there the more likely you're gonna end up eating it...

i still have no idea why they consider signing hartline to be a priority...

Hartline and Sean Smith can go find work elsewhere. Neither is a bad player but will no longer be on rookie contracts. I'll take my chances replacing both with younger, hungry, less expensive draft picks. Starks is a solid player but Miami has depth on the line. I'd make Wake and Long my priorty. Bush i'd bring back if he'd sign a short contract or one that Miami can easily get out of. He's been injury prone and would be in his late 20's for that contract. Starks i'd resign if the money is right. If not, like I said Miami has depth along the line even with the loss of Langford and I wouldn't be surprised if they drafted another DE/DT type this draft

So can Dansby if you ask me. Not worth nearly what Miami is paying him.

So all of a sudden Philbin will change his stripes and build through FA next year? Not happening. That space will be used to re-sign those they deem a must on the roster and extend others. No way they get 'more' active in FA next year. Not happening.

It won't be him, it will be Ireland.

If you think Philbins philosophy won't and hasn't taken hold yet, then you are in fantasy land.

I can say one thing if Ireland and Philbin aren't on the same page in terms of philosophies you might as well stick a fork in both of em' and quite wasting our time.

Exactly. People thinking just because the cap space will be there, it will be spent on FA's. That will not be the MO. Maybe a FA here and there. But NOTHING Philbin has said indicates this team will be heavy players in FA. And they WILL NOT over pay for ANY FA, PERIOD!:brewskis:

In 2020 Miami will be 150mil under the cap. Ohh that's right we haven't signed anyone out that long yet, my bad.

Miami doesn't have anyone signed beyond the next three years...Dansby, Burnett, Marshall, Odrick, Pouncey, Thomas, Gates, Clay, Wilson, Messam are the only Dolphins under contract through 2014 and all will be FA in 2015.

I don't think it is necessarily a matter of not being on the same page with players. I think it is more a matter of Philbin is dependent on Ireland's ability to sign players that would be a good fit. We've already seen that Ireland's inability to manage the cap and unwillingness to pay for a player what Ireland considers to be "fair" have hurt Philbin as a coach.

Only a fool would think Philbin would rather of had David Garrard, a 34 year old QB coming of back surgery and unfamiliar with the system, over Matt Flynn...a 27 year old QB that spent the past 4 years mastering the offense and performed at an extremely high level when given the chance to run it.

Lol you want to cut Reggie Bush? He's our second best guy on offense.

Who said "cut"? Nobody said cut! When his contract is up AFTER THIS YEAR maybe not renew. Let's see how he does this year. That's all I'm sayin. He has had 1 good year in his life, show us he can do it again.

If he does great, pay him. If not, it's no loss. We can come in 3rd or 4th place with or without Reggie Bush.

So where does that place Ireland's plan? We're not rebuilding now, but planning for a total rebuild next year. It throws this year into a strange limbo. The core of the team this year is going to be Long, Wake, Bush, Moore who are all FA next year. We're going to have to give them all extensions to prove there's been some direction going on otherwise our GM has just been dicking around for 4 years. I would hope all that cap space indicates we will be giving out extensions to Wake and Long. Might as well get Wake extended before it becomes a TC issue.

Big free agents that I can think of next year will probably be franchised: Flacco, Schaub, MJD, Jennings, Willis. Victor Cruz is a UFA. Giants may not want to pay him. That could be an interesting option. There's also a chance Schaub might hit the open market considering Houston's salary cap issues and the possible development of Yates. I'm not a big fan of his so I'm not thrilled with the idea, but he might be out there.

Long and WAKE should be resigned and that could eat up about 25M of the 53M cap space. Bush should get a 2 or 3 year contract. He is probably worth a liitle more only if he stays healthy 5 or 6 M per year. We should double down on WRs in this draft so I dont see WR as an issue with HArtline.
Fasano is getting too much money right now so he wont increas the cap. We need to draft an OL in this draft that can start this year or by next year.

I can see us signing a FA OL for 4 or 5 mil for this or next year. Thats 35M off the cap with only 4 players. Draft should take care of any middle of the road players.

.

They can't. They don't have the cap space THIS year to do that
