MiamiDolfan85's 7 Round Mock

1:Sean Smith,CB out of Utah(6'3",217)
[Darius Butler would be the pick here, but I really cant see him getting past Minnesota or New England, and Matthews Pro Day 40-time(4.4) boosted him above MIA's position,so Sean Smith kinda wins by default, but I realistically cant see this pick being anything other than a corner or a pass rusher,so maybe Ayers could be picked here, but dont be suprised if MIA trades down, cause theres(IMO) a 40-60% chance of it happening]

2:Conner Barwin,OLB out of Cincinnati(6'4",255)
[Barwin is a terrific athlete, who looks to be a future NFL star player with his great speed for his size, and ability to play in coverage, but also get after the quaterback]

2b:Ramses Barden,WR out of Cal Poly(6'6",230)
[Barden is exactly what the Phins need.A big, physical WR who can create things happen w/out relying on others,as at Cal Poly(a running school) didnt have anyone on the same planet of talent as Barden. This guy is this years Vincent Jackson(6'5",242).

3:Chris Baker,NT out of Hampton(6'3",326)
[MIA's situation at NT behind Ferguson is unknown, which is why you have got to get soemone while you can]

4:Ricky Jean-Francois,DE out of L.S.U(6'2",296)
[This guy was thought to be a future 1st rounder, but didnt show it in his short years at L.S.U.His still has a ton of upside, and can be a good rotational player, but anything more would probably be just wishful thinking]

5:Antonio Appleby,ILB out of Virginia(6'4",255)
[Antonio has dropped his stock some, but only make him more attractive.I think he has a good chance to be a starter in a few years]

6: Don Carey,CB out of Norfolk State(5'11",192)
[MIAs been fonds of this guy for over 3 months]

7:Cedrick Peerman,RB out of Virginia(5'9",216)
[This is a shot in the dark basically. The guy runs a 4.5,which is great, and is powerful, reminds me a lot of MJD.Good hands, and get out of the backfield in hurry, and could be a pretty nice project.Low-Risk,HIGH-Reward type player]

7b:Jamie Thomas,OG out of Maryland(6'4",322)
[Cant say I see him sticking, but who knows....]

We don't need a DE and Peerman is too small. Barden runs poor routes so he's a three year project to become a force.

yes we do,we got rid of Holliday, and we need a rotation at DE,otherwise Merling and Langford would be worn out by half-time....

I think we're picking Smith earlier than he's due and Barwin will be gone before we pick in Rd 2. Other than that...looks good.

Barwin and Smith need to be reversed....I don't see Baker a Parcells guy...not even sure they interviewed him. Barden can be had a little later...too early for the late second round...and didn't the Dolphins trade for a DE?

I like Smith in round 1. I like Carey where you took him. I am not crazy with Barwin, but you have him in the right place in the draft. Just my personal preference. Too early on Rames. Much better choices than Baker in Round 3, I would have Baker no earlier than 4. I think Peerman is a little too small for the FO. Overall though it was a good job!

Sorry, I don't see Sean Smith as a #1. For a second, he would be fine.

we arent going to interview every prospect, i wouldnt be suprised to see half our picks come as someone we didnt publicly interview or have interest in.

Personally I am looking for a trade down out of the first round. Just my thought.

I highly doubt that...perhaps 30 years ago a team could keep quiet about certain players...but just too many ways for news to spread today. No team is going to invest millions on a player they don't talk to...or investigate closely.
I may be wrong...but I believe every player the Dolphins selected last year was either interviewed or brought into Davie.

according to kffl, only 4 of our players from last years draft were publicly courted. we had visits/meetings with Langford and Long. Personal workout with Henne, and we met with Shawn Murphy at the combine..thats it.

there was 0 talk of merling making it to the 2nd round. im sure they scouted him, but they never worked him out. he fell in their laps and he was selected. they based it off many things, but not interviewing him or working him out.
