As a Rival Fan I enjoy reading about what the Mia Fans say about thier team. I remember reading your draft day threads and Dogged on the Bills with Whitner. So what do you think Still a reach or was Allen worse.

The Miami Dolphins defense is much more difficult than the Bills' Cover 2. It will take time for Jason Allen to learn our defense, just about as much time as it took Troy to learn Pittsburgh's defense.

Ok I will agree with you there. Only thing I have to say is I would have expected more from your 1st round pic than I seen. I hope DC helps you all out next year, because I miss Mia and Buf playing 1 and 2 in the East

I think we got more out of Renaldo Hill then anyone seems to understand. Whitner got the starting job in Buffalo almost uncontested, Allen However is stuck behind a pretty good player in Hill.

As for whether or not Whitner was a reach? Well...it was still a reach no matter how you look at it. I'd say it worked out for the bills though.

whitner played well for the bills... no need to hate... i wish that THAT donte was a fin, rather than the other'n.

Well that is true, But again Whitner had to play into his position. Bowen was picked up to be the starter. The one that was given thier job was Ko Simpson (I think a major steal).

I will admit they probably did reach. but at the same time at the end of the season haveing 5 to 6 of your rookies either staring or getting major playing time has to say something about your talent evaluation.

I am not knocking Saban, but I also think his player evaluation is skewed. If you look at the FAs brought in and his drafting so far. I know MIA was left in ruins when he took over. But this offseason needs to be hugs for you. If not you can see that window closing. With JT and Zack just getting older

I'd give the Bills more flack for McCargo than for Whitner anyways. Atleast Whitner was a projected first rounder; McCargo was third (and I promise you, Carolina was not going to take him, especially after spending a lot of money on Kemeaotu and Lewis).

I was more upset about the pick because I wanted him for us.

Allen has also been switching back and forth between CB and FS in a complicated defense so I'll give him time.

I know McCargo most likely was a reach, It was not Carolina that Marv was worried about it was the Giants. Now with the exception of that pick he had a pretty good draft even if the experts slammed him. With:

McCargo - got hurt on IR
Whitner - Starting
YouBoty - Behind Nate and McGee
Simpson - Starting
Ellison - 4th Backer, Starting with Crowells INJ
Williams - Starting
Merz Backup
Pennington - Starting

Most are all early entrees too in the draft so they are all young, Whitner is 21.

I am hoping for yet another strong Off-Season from the Bills, and one from the Fins, Believe me I would rather have us two back at the top with the Bills being first of course.

Obviously, Miami would have picked Whitner but you had a worse record and beat us to him. Fine. Now we return the favor. Besides, will your offseason be any shorter than ours? Thank you come again.

Ummmm, doesn't it usually take about 3 years to really evaluate a player? For all we know Donte Whitner is the new Adam Archuletta(had a good first year look at him now) or he could be Sean Taylor(steady and improving). Jason Allen could be Derrick Gibson(taken by Oakland 1st round and never heard of again) or he could be like Troy Polamalu(took some time but then took off).

Completely agree. Do you think Allens progression was handled poorly from Saban? With the flipping from corner to safety to corner?

I also find it funny that on the draft threads in the buffalo pages we talk about the exact same players you all are talking about. Minus the whole QB thing. Everyone is pretty happy with Losman's progression since MM left.

I feel the Allen situation was handled beyond poorly, starting with getting him signed late. Then Saban who is a "defensive back guy" never allowed him to get comfortable at a position. These kids are young and development is HUGE, I completely disagree with bouncing him back and forth like that.

I agree with you. That was the biggest complaint with Mularkey handling JP like he did. Compared to the way DJ handled him this year.

I can tell you two guys i hope you pass on if they are there when you pick is Jarrett or Willis. I hope Willis gets to where we pick. If not I guess Poz or Jarrett is OK too.

However I must say I am a big believer in letting players sit and watch a year when they play a position that takes as many reads as Safety does. I believe that Saban does know a thing or two about D Backs and really Allen had ZERO chance of starting this year regardless. Bringing along certain positions slowly is a very wise(however unpopular) choice.

Personally I like Poz, I feel he like he feels like he has something to prove. I'll take a player with a little less talent who has a chip on his shoulder to prove something over a more talented player who lacks that chip sometimes.
