Gary Payton just signed a one yr. deal. I dont know about you guys but this is ethier going to be a disaster in the making or the best team we've ever had......hard to tell yet.

Excellent point; can you imagine Payton in his arrogant prime, playing behind or ahead of Jason Williams? OMG! The attitudes and egos would flood the room, leaving space for nothing else.

Fortunately, I think Payton has gotten much better than he was in his days with the Sonics. He seems a lot more within himself, not so angry and counter-productive. Maybe he can even be a good influence on JW.

Bottom line: I trust Riley; if he says this roster will work, I trust his judgment. He is one of the best, savvy-est NBA men around, and has put together amazing rosters in the past just to see them taken down by bad luck.

I'm excited as hell for this season; for the fist time, this year I bought the NBA package on DirecTV, and I'm looking forward to watching my Heat make mincemeat out of the rest of the league.

MIAMI  Gary Payton is now Heat guard Gary Payton, the newest addition to a star-studded lineup that has been assembled to bring an NBA title to South Florida.

Payton, a 37-year-old future Hall of Fame selection and a starter in each of his previous 16 NBA seasons, signed a one-year contract Thursday for $1.1 million, the veteran's minimum.

He'll be the backup point guard and mentor to newly acquired Jason Williams, a flamboyant player whose seven-year career has been a mix of success and frustration.
