Miami's Odds Improving!

Here's a good tutorial on odds in general

In its most simple of terms, 1 in 5 odds is a statement that the bookmaker believes if there were 5 total probabilites (games played), the team has a mathematical probability of winning one of those games or, in other words, that the team has a 20% chance of winning

nice thanks!

This is more of a probability logic than a odds betting logic. Because if you are 5-1, how would that reflect in your logic. Like if we still had Feeley and Wannsteadt, there would probably be 1 in 5 umm 5,000,000 chance we would have went 9 and 7 last year. But for a betting man, u don't bet probablity u bet money. And the more money going on a team the lower the odds go.

Lets say 10 million bucks have been put on the AFC East. 6 million on the Pats, 3 million on the Fins, 750,000 on the Jets and 250,000 on the Bills . . the odds would be readjusted to factor those numbers.

Unfortunately, I am not the person who defined the concept of 'odds'. That was done a long time ago by a mathmatician. I believe that you are talking about are money lines, not odds.

Here is the text in part from the link you may not have read before you replied:

n probability theory and statistics the odds in favor of an event or a proposition are the quantity p / (1 − p), where p is the probability of the event or proposition. The logarithm of the odds is the logit of the probability. Odds have long been the standard way of representing probability used by bookmakers, though the method of presenting odds varies by location.
Taking an event with a 1 in 5 probability of occurring (i.e. 0.2 or 20%), then the odds are 0.2 / (1 − 0.2) = 0.2 / 0.8 = 0.25. If you bet 1 at fair odds and the event occurred, you would receive back 4 plus your original 1 stake. This would be presented in fractional odds of 4 to 1 against (written as 4 : 1 or 4/1), in decimal odds as 5.0 to include the returned stake, in craps payout as 5 for 1, and in moneyline odds as +400 representing the gain from a 100 stake.

NFL | New odds set for the AFC East; Miami improving

Bob Matthews, of the Democrat and Chronicle, reports the MGM Mirage Race & Sports Book in Las Vegas has released updated odds to win the 2006 AFC East and Super Bowl XLI  <A href="http://www.kffl.com/team/24/nfl">New England Patriots 5-to-2 and 9-to-2; Miami Dolphins 6-to-1 and 12-to-1; Buffalo Bills 30-to-1 and 50-to-1; New York Jets 35-to-1 and 75-to-1.

Miami is 5-2 to win the East, 12-1 to win the AFC, and 25-1 to win it all. Horrible reporting by KFFL.

Just remember what happened last year? These same brilliant odds makers still had the Steelers at 20:1 at Christmas time; a team that went 15-1 the year before, and the only remotely significant player they lost was Plaxico Buress. IMO, the Vegas odds makers are irrelevent. A lot is riding on our season opener. I think as far as talent gos, were equal with the Steelers this year. There a team returning almost all their starters and they have shown their heart and their eye of the the tiger. Our team will have a lot of new faces and we're going to get to find out right away who their going to be.
Hopefully, Saban will establish his team's identity against the World Champions.

Odds change every day and he cited the oddsmaker that KFFL used. As I write this, Vegas.com had Miami at 20-1 to win it all.

Currently, the Colts are the favorite at 3-1.

If Peyton breaks an arm tomorrow, those odds will change.

Does anyone bet online? If so what is a trustworthy website that you have tried. I'm interested in betting money this season! Thanks

The odds here in Ireland were 22-1 after the draft. Tried to get them after the signed Culpepper but the book was closed until after the draft. Think they were 33-1 here about 8 weeks ago.

I got 25-1 0dds during the superbowl.

Sweet odds. I have a feeling, as the season goes on, the odds will be less favorable to Fins fans. You timed it perfectly !
