anyone see the Joe Gibbs press conferance refereing to the penalties and officiating?

Did Saban mention anything about it in his conferance?

Gibbs said after reviewing the tape the didn't see 1/2 the calls the refs made. Plus the play at the end of the game that was overturned via review that would have been a safety for the skins and probably given them the game. Very almost eerily similar to RB fumble that when you really watch the replay close RB had the ball pressed against his stomach when his knee was down. This should not have been a fumble.

Anyone else think the NFL is trying to propel certain teams to get ratings?

Didn't see it, but I've heard from several people that the officiating in that game was horrid.

I've only seen the highlights and very breif glimpses on game day. But the calls that were bad were real bad.:yell:

The officiating really seems to have a trend going on. If they want to call a close game, or a game where the just let'em play a little more doesn't really matter to me as long as the call it evenly for both teams. It has become a lot worse as of late, The officials seem to have no penalties or motivation to make good calls. I think their pay should be based on a constant evaluation of their plays.

The key to officiating in any league is consistency. There simply isn't any in the NFL. These guys flat out suck, although I do enjoy watching them get run over from time to time.

sometimes i think some of the posts made here are so dumb, that the poster cant possibly be serious.

whats worse is that first you actually accuse the NFL of fixing games, which is dumb in its own respect, but then you later admit you saw very little of the game? oh you win poster of the year for sure

The refs are human and they are going to make mistakes. I think for the most part they do their best to call a fair game. I think if the NFL would anti up for highly paid full times refs we would see a greater consistency of calls and better overall reffing.

Yeah like when that ref got the crap knocked out of him yesterday!

Yes the officiating has really gone down the ****ter the past 5 years or so.

I didn't watch the entire Washington game, however what I did see was pretty bad, I did watch the Fins game and have it on tivo. Replayed several of the penalties, not the false starts and pre-snaps, just the judgement call penalties. One D holding call against miami horrible call, one nuetral zone penalty against our D horrible call, One no call on a very obvious facemask right in front of an official on RB. One no call on an obvious ruffing the passer in the next to the last drive of the game. Fumble by ronnie brown on next to last drive, should not have been a fumble.

Washington, had a holding penalty that wasn't holding at all bring back an over 30 yrd. td. fumble by Plummer should have been a safety, instead overturned. Plummer pulled the ball back down to his waist then lost it, they said he tucked it. terrible call game changeing terrible call. Plus two no calls on Denver that I saw a blocker literally drag down a defender and another one where the D player was trying to get to the Runner behind him, head and shoulders turned to make a play, but he was being held back by the O lineman.

bad calls and obvious no calls. this is not a dumb post, I'm saying we are not the only ones that had bad calls happen to them, and something has to be the reason for it. Bad officiating normally works against both teams evenly, but when you start seeing games with 12 - 14 and 18 or 20 penalties, the penalties come at crucial times and are always against one certain team.

c'mon open your eyes dude, someone is making some money somewhere and it needs to be corrected.

by the way, Mike ditka just made a comparison referring to baltimore and the Phins and penalties costing them the games.

He said the Ref's are costing teams games and they should be more careful about what they call. Nobody on Open mike disagreed with him, should tell you something don't ya think???

Wow, I guess me and the pro's need to be more carefull in our statements regarding the refs huh.:shakeno:

I'm surprised someone in the media actually called them on the carpet for it. Should have known it would be Iron Mike! :shout:

I do agree that the calls were out of hand yesterday but I don't think they got the RB call wrong. The replay in my opinion showed it was a fumble. Also, many of the other calls seemed accurate but I am sure they could have called a few more on the Bills. Face it Miami blew it by just not playing disciplined football.

The worst calls-

#1 holding on 59 - they was fighting for possition while Holcomb was already sacked on 3 and 5 - Bad call because play was dead.

#2 zach tHomas roughing the passer - only one step and he tried to let up but couldn't becasue he was coming fast.

#3 - Taunt was a taunt - I have seen worse taunts not get called

not called on Buffalo

#1 - Morris gets helmet torn off - no call

#2 - Taylor grabbed by the face mask pulled downward - no call

Thought I'd some stats from this Sundays games to the mix. I thought about making a new thread, but this horse is getting beaten hard this week, so here goes. There were 13 games Sunday, The number of penalties accepted was 225 league wide. Visitors were assessed 137 and Home teams were assessed 87. That is 61 percent of all penalties this Sunday went against the Visiting team. This, to make things short averaged out to 10.6 penalties for the Visitors vs. 6.6 for the home team with the average of 20 additional penalty yards for the visiting team. :shakeno: Only one team (Carolina) had less penalties than the home team (Arizona). The Fins were flagged 21 times and had three declined (1 OFF holding and 2 Def offsides). Of the 18 accepted, two were on Special teams, the remainder were split between O and D, but the D was flagged more. Most penalties were false start or Def offsides, presnap penalties that are not a discretion issue for the refs. The rest however, are an issue. At least 7 penalties against the D (pass interference, holding, roughing the passer) could be up to scrutiny. While the Taunting call is the only one in question for the offense. However, the missed calls that I saw were horrendous (SM's helmet removal for example).

What's your take looking at the numbers? Are Home teams getting an advantage by the refs to increase ticket sales? Or is this just a result of travelling?

The close calls wouldn't be so bad if we didn't commit double-digit penalties that were unforced (offsides, false start, etc).
