There's some guys that are backups that really contribute to this team, and I wanted to see your opionion on who you think deserves some props for what they do in their limited role..

I'd say my top 3 are
1- Culver, he's playing alot of downs and making all kinds of plays when he's in the game, what a huge PSquad pickup last year
2- Soliai- Every one knocks him because he doesn't get sacks or many tackles. But when this guy is in, he controls the middle getting good penetration, and is a reason why our ends, (starks Merling and Langford) have looked great, Soliai is one of my favorite players on the team, granted NT is my fav position.
3-Mr.Cobbs and Lou Polite.. They shouldn't be here together, because they do different jobs, i just think cobbs is an extremely hard worker, not only a Parcells guy but more of a Sparano guy.. Polite, how do you not love his short yardage game? Pretty solid at blocking too this year, is a really under appraiciated part of our #1 running game

why would you try to identify unsung heroes on a 1-3 team?

Why not. I happen to agree with the poster. At least with the first two. I think Culver, and Soliai will be key contributers if the Dolphins plan on defending the AFC East crown.

The answer is Randy Starks and it's not even close.

Starks is our #1 rated defensive player and #1 ranked run stopper, via pff.

He also has more snaps than anyone else on our defensive front. But what makes him special is these snaps are coming from NT, LDE and RDE.

The guy is having a break out season and is the main reason for our #2 ranked run stopping defense.

The next guy in line, but pretty far away is Paul Soliai. He gets a good share of snaps now and you can see no difference from him or Fergie being our anchor in the middle. Soliai has proven he can be a top NT in this league. Next season, watch out, the guy has the skill set of a Haloti Ngata.

First to be fair I would argue Cobbs because he has contributed so many different ways for so long that he is really taken for granted. If he is not covering kicks he is running them back and contributes on the field. I believe he would be a starting tailback on some other teams.
Second Saloi gets my nod over Starks because he has come in as a regular contributor after bing on the very very very brink of being a bust. Plus I was worried big time about not having a backup to Ferg this year.
Third That being said Starks is the starting DE on the #1 rush defense in the league. That is very impressive in itself and would be debatable why he is not #1.
Fourth I would vote for Culver. I do not break down game film like some of the other fans do on this forum but of the safties and he is not even starting I notice him the most as far as positive plays. In my minds eye I see him replacing Wilson.

Those are my opinions

i like starks he just seems to get in the way. In a good way :p

Starks is a far better player than what many people perceive him to be

check any big run that we have... chances polite is there 9/10 times.

im going starks, because polite is starting to garner deserved attention, see my ode to lousaka thread last night. starks is always in the backfield
