As many of you know, our WRs arent very good outside of camarillo and maybe Ted Ginn Jr. So i decided to check the FA crop and see who might be available. Well, basically no one. There is no receiver that will be an upgrade at that position this year.

So that brought me to the draft. Obviously, Michael Crabtree is the best WR in this draft, and is slated to go top 10 come april. IMO, we should draft this guy. He can be very good next to TGJ and Camarillo. He can be that big physical # 1 receiver for us next year. You know, like Andre Johnson, Anquan Boldin or Larry Fitzgerald.

I know some of you may say we really need cornerbacks and linebackers too. But if you check out this years FA, you will see their are some really good names Miami can sign. Examples are chris gamble, Nnamdi Asmougha, Karlos Dansby, Terrell Suggs, Bart scott, etc..

I know Bill Parcells doesnt like to draft Receivers early in the first round, but i think we should because he can be better than any body we can pick up via Free agency.

thoughts?

That would be a great off season if we could draft Crabtree and pick up Asmougha and Bart Scott!

I officially on the NOT Crabtree bandwaggon. I've seen TX Tech play that BS spread formation for YEARS, and, how many of thier WRs, even though they put up sick numbers are drafted? No idea, but, not many. I think Crabtree is a product of the system. IF being big and fast were all there was to being successful, souting would be easy.

I could not agree more. Unfortunately, often those "complete players" are built according to their system. The question is whether they can stand up in an NFL system and produce good numbers.

But I like his athleteism. Without doubt a player to watch for the next couple of years.

Another first round WR for the Dolphins? Did Millen take over your team? lol

One little fear could be the reaction would be the same as when we drafted Ginn Jr. But if he does it better so it is perfectly fine with me!

I like Crabtree better than Ginn but not sure i would take him that high.
Ginn was a media prospect which somewhat overrated him but a solid Nfl prospect

First off I don't think there's anything obvious on whether or not Michael Crabtree overtakes Jeremy Maclin for that top WR spot.

Second, Maclin is the kid that probably is what we all wished Ted Ginn would be. He has that speed that when you see it on the field and you're in the presence of it, you know it's just on a different level from everyone else. At the same time, he has 6'1" and 200 pound size, and the ability to operate his body efficiently while being touched. That's what Ginn lacks, to me.

Michael Crabtree, I see him as a lot more Anquan Boldin than Larry Johnson. But, I guess that's just me.

Hey, Id take Anquan Boldin 10-15 anyday.

The reason i would take him if he's available, assuming we're pickin outside of the top 5, is because he can be better than any receiver we pick up via free agency. Our positions of weakness like cornerback or linebacker can be helped through free agency.

And i dont care if he is a "product of his system". He still has to run his routes, and catch the balls. He is very athletic, and has good hands. He may not be the fastest, but that doesnt matter.

But we'll see what happens.

WR is too hit-or-miss for me in the first round. The busts tend to be really bad busts, and the hit/miss for WRs in the other rounds doesn't have that much different a character.

Like usually you find that when you take a DL or something in the 1st round, yeah there's definitely a hit/miss involved but the hits tend to be excellent football players and even some of the misses tend to be solid rotational players, and then when you get to like 2nd and 3rd rounds, there's still a hit/miss but the hits don't tend to be as excellent as the 1st round hits, and the misses tend to just never get on the field period.

With the WR position, I would say the hit/miss percentages do go up as you get higher in the draft, but when you hit on guys in the 2nd or 3rd round, they tend to be just as good or very close, or even better, than the guys you manage to hit on when you're drafting in the 1st round.

That's just my unresearched take, at the moment...if anyone cares to challenge me on it and show the research I'd gladly change my opinion but that is my current impression.

Well, im certainley not gonna challenge you. Just asking questions, lol.

If we were picking say 7th overall in the draft, and Michael Crabtree was there, would you choose him?

I know the question is not addressed to me, but I would personally like to take a chance on him even though he may be a system player. The only way it wouldn't happen is, Bill Parcells.

He is certainly a burn or bust player in my world. Clearly an upgrade to our entire wide receiver corps if he were to end here. Which I, holds not believe in, unfortunately.

I like the discussions on him, so please continue guys!

:):d-day:

Not if Vonte Davis or Malcom Jenkins is availiable.

if we have those three options, I'm a happy man. I really don't care who we go with, that's all Bill/Irelands choice.

I really think alot will hinge on the Chiefs and the Lions. I believe whomever has first shot at him takes him. If they draft forward of us, it's more likely one of the three will be there. If they don't, the opposite. I also believe the Raiders will take Crabtree, so, lots will depend on them. Al Davis needs the soul of a young fast WR to remain on this plane of existance.
