Everyone who thinks we haven't drafted a #1 receiver need to take a look at Egnew's 2010 season. If the Dolphins get him to reduce back to his 235 lb weight of that year, he might turn into another Colston. You may not remember, but Colston was initially a TE for NO. I remember because he was on my fantasy team as a TE (lol. Still didn't make the playoffs). Hooshoops doesn't think he can get seperation. I don't think Colston could either, not against man to man. But he was able to find the seam in a zone defense often. Egnew looks to be able to do that from what I saw. What's great are the mismatches both make with their height. Coupled with body control and great hands, a small cb is toast even if he's draped like curtains against Egnew. For those crying about Marshall, I thought he was the same type of player but without the hands. Didn't run routes well (see the interception by Revis at goal line in first Jet game of last year for an example) but was able to create mismatches and get his body in a position to put the defender at a disadvantage. Didn't like his YAC. Didn't like his YPC. Didn't like the dropped balls in the end zone. Didn't like his diva attititude. Sometimes production is just a product of opportunity. Watch Hartline, this year. Given the opportuity, he will have a big year in my estimation. Then next year, watch Egnew.

I think egnew will have his time to shine, Im interested in seeing what plays they design for him and clay.

I'm not advocating BMarsh should have been retained, but that play was blatant PI. As for Egnew, I'd have to guess they plan to use him like Jermichael Finley if Philbin runs anywhere near the same offense as Green Bay.

i'm really not sure about this.
I'm really not sure he will start either, but I am quite sure he will see the field nearly as much as the starter if he doesn't start. With our current roster I see Egnew, Bush, Clay, Miller and Gates, in that order, as being our best chance to create mismatches. And that is all you hear Philbin preach is creating mismatches. I love this pick and couldn't disagree more with hoops about his blocking. He is not a blocking TE and hasn't been used that way, but he is VERY willing and loves contact. He plays very confident and made huge strides in his blocking from his junior to senior years. He blocked Couples at the POA several times one on one in their game vs UNC. Sealed him perfectly every time in space with no help as the RB ran right behind him. I have also said I didn't want Couples and think he has bust written all over him, but that is beside the point. Egnew is not a blocker and wasn't drafted to do so, but he blocks better than WRs and can be taught to be a very solid blocker.

Egnew sucks. I hated this pick with a passion. I would have rather gone into the year with Clay/Fasano and taken a TE in the much later rounds or free agency.

He will be out of the NFL in a few years.

He couldn't even get good separation in the college level...
He can't block
He is not an elite athlete
He has no power or explosiveness

I really hated this pick. Basically we took a TE because we needed one and the Colts took Fleener and Allen.....leaving us with this guy, not because he was worth it.

Fasano is better than Egnew.

I think Egnew is going to end up the best player from this draft, outside of Olivier.....I think these two 3rd rounders are gonna be what makes this draft a success....

I didn't hate the pick but based on scouting reports I thought he couldn't block. I questioned his commitment to improve himself since he has played football for so long.

However, video shows that Egnew knows how to block adequately what is in front of him. He shouldn't have a problem blocking in-line and in front of him. His problem is positioning when he is blocking in space. He either has slow reaction time or thinks too much. On running plays towards his side, he doesn't know where to position himself to seal the CB from tackling the runner on most occasions. Again, he is either slow reacting to the CB's movement and adjustment or he thinks too much on how to proper seal the edge without committing a penality. My apologies on trying to explain what I see.

I originally gave him a "C" on where he was drafted and due to blocking fundamentals however I believe with strengthening and coaching, he will be an exceptional all-around TE.
