An excellent read. This is why I like Draft Guys TV so much. I truly love the work they do.

Also one of the big reasons I actually like Michael Johnson, where everyone else seems to like to dump all over him.

This is a guy that has proven himself against the BEST. He may not be an every down guy YET, but it was his first year starting and it may just take him some time before he is able to translate that special ability of his into intensity on every play.

Sometimes it doesn't just come right away. And you could almost wish Georgia Tech just had the balls to start Johnson a lot earlier in his college career and say hey, you know what, he's young, inexperienced and he's going to make mistakes, he's going to check out mentally on some plays, but by starting and playing often he'll learn things he can only learn by starting and playing often, and hopefully what we'll get on the other side of all this is a truly dominant player.

Keep in mind, before everyone starts saying Vernon Gholston this, or Vernon Gholston that, that one of the most attractive things about Johnson is the VARIETY of ways he has found to make plays on the ball. Whether it be the speed rush, a spin or stunt to the inside, going from the left side or the right side, covering Cedric Peerman (a 4.3 speedster) out of the backfield which takes away Verica's outlet and forces the defeat, or fighting through a double team to make a play on a back in the backfield...he found ways to make plays, not just one way.

I agree with you....I've also been a staunch supporter of Michael Johnson...

Look...the guy has one of the rarest blends of size, speed, athletic ability and upside as any of us will ever see enter the NFL draft....ever...

He also played in a different defense under John Tenuta (who left for Notre Dame) than he did his senior year....who knows why they never started Johnson...

That defensive line for GT was vastly overrated as a whole....absolutely hammered by LSU in the bowl game....but wouldn't you know Johnson was the only one to show up for that game with a sack and 2 forced fumbles...

Why was Willie Parker a backup for 3 years at UNC?

Why was Franco Harris a virtual backup at Penn St.?

Two superbowl MVP's there....and one HOF'er...

Why did Tom Brady only start 2 years at Michigan?

Antonio Cromartie only started 1 game for FSU I believe...all he did was lead the league with 10 interceptions...

There are numerous examples of this....the thing is....If Michael Johnson can put it all together?....

Scary thought, huh...

So are both you thinking that this could be the second coming of Jason Taylor?:ponder: Remember he would have to go to the strong side while Porter is here. Does he play strong or weak in college?

CK...I'm not sure how anyone could rave about a draft site that says this;

"Even though Monroe won more of the individual battles, the war is a draw, and if the fight had a few more rounds, I’m sure Johnson would have won. Johnson’s biggest flaw was apparent. Sometimes he checked out for no reason, and at times tight ends handled him easily one on one."

Whats the point? Even though Monroe kicked his butt...Johnson won because he showed up? There were times that the TE's beat a DE....really?

If a TE can handle Johnson one on one...in college...why would any team want him? Never mind the Dolphins!

At best he's a one or two down player...perhaps a pass rush specialist...but he not a full time player...if he can't beat a TE never mind a tackle.

He played both.

In Miami, right away what he would probably do is come in as a situational pass rusher. He still has to learn how to play linebacker, remember.

Cam Wake is in the same boat, so I cant see going there at 25. If he slips perhaps, but not at 25. Thats assuming Parcells doesnt trade out of the 1st.

Keep in mind that eventually what Johnson would be looking at is probably taking over for Joey Porter on the weak side...so there's still room for Mr. Wake. Not saying it WILL happen, but it could definitely happen IMO.

But I am with you, they may try and trade out of the round.

It wouldn't bother me if we got Johnson in the second round. Heck if we went Johnson & Johnson (Michael & Herman) in the second round with a killer CB or WR in the first, I would be ecstatic!

I would be thrilled if we got Michael Johnson with our first CK, he would be a great pick up for our pass defense.

What a lot of people don´t know is, he has the tools to be a top five player and you just don´t get a chance to draft guys like that at the bottom of the first round.

If Johnson is there at 25, it would be a mistake not to take him IMHO.

While I would be weary of drafting him in the Top 15, 25 might be a great spot to draft him in.

I wouldn't be at all opposed to drafting MJ with our #1 pick, but with this rash of expected first rounders testing positive for steroids and marijuana left and right, will Michael Johnson be there at #25 now?

Speaking of Jason Taylor, he was pretty raw coming out of Akron and needed two or three years to become an elite player, which might draw a similar parallel to the progress of Michael Johnson.

While i'd agree with you that the writer goes a little overboard in his praise i would say that allowing 3 qb hurries including a strip sack, a tackle for loss and a false start is a pretty poor outing for Monroe. letting a defender make 6 key plays in 25 snaps clearly shows in was in trouble when compared to the kind of analysis we saw on Jake Long last year when he was probably having less than 6 bad plays in the entire 50 odd snaps he was in on

I have this sneaking suspicion that Johnson will go to the Texans at 15. Especially in light of the 2 USC linebackers supposedly testing positive for steroids.

Can you imagine Mario Williams on one end and Michael Johnson on the other?

I guess it could happen but keep in mind they gave pretty big money to Antonio Smith in free agency to do just that, play DE opposite Mario Williams.
