Ronnie Brown: Grade - A+

Initially, I thought he would have no real factor in the offense this year. I never doubted his ability, but with a suspect O-Line, I felt he would be a non-factor. BOY WAS I WRONG! Ronnie has shown the poise of a seasoned veteran, hitting the holes with speed and patiently waiting for them to open if necessary. I have noticed that the deeper into the game, the better he runs. The return of RW may have something to do with it, but it is still a good sign. I honestly think he has improved with his vision and running as the season has progressed. He has been patient with the blockers and seems to have plenty of "juke" juice in his legs. Ronnie has shown he also carries a sledge hammer with him onto the field. I have not been this excited about a rookie in a very long time. He currently ranks #14 on the rushing leaders list with 611 yards.

Travis Daniels: Grade - C

Yes, he has been burnt a couple of times, but he is a rookie; and to step in and start at CB in the NFL is a feat in itself; especially when he was not charted to start. With that, he has held his own, though, he has not been spectacular . On the other hand, he has not stunk up the joint. I do hope he can continue his good play throughout the duration. He has good size and above average speed. His knowledge of Saban's system has also helped him a great deal. I have not seen anything that would make him stand out (either good or bad), but I feel he has the potential to be a very good corner. He is getting good reps this season, which should benefit him greatly come next year.

Matt Roth: Grade - C

Matt has not really made that much of an impression on me. He has made a few tackles here and there, and I believe he has a sack. He definitely seems to be powerful, but lacks the footwork or true athleticism to make a difference right now. With the right coaching, I think he will be solid. I honestly thought he would be a force to be reckoned with THIS YEAR, but it is obvious he still needs tweaking in order to be successful in the NFL. One thing I have noticed: Matt finishes plays! I have seen him handled on several occassions, but he gets pissed in the process. I like that. I just hope he does not get too thick-headed.

Channing Crowder: Grade - B+

At the beginning of the year, Channing continually over-persued plays. I honestly thought that Saban would sit him down for a few games. I am glad he did not. Crowder, much like Brown, has improved in every game. I noticed on a several plays against Atlanta, Crowder acted as a "spy" for Vick. He stayed put, making Vick throw the ball (which is what everyone routing for Miami wanted). Crowder seems to be getting the defense down pat. Unfortunately, Vick made Miami pay by having a very "un-Vick like" passing game. Channing also had the forced fumble on the hit that "JACKED UP" that one Atlanta RB! Crowder has earned his starting OLB role. His playing time this year will put him in a position to be very successful next year. He has a great feel for the game. His combination of size, speed, intellect, and instinct, has PRO BOWL written all over it in the upcoming years. Let us hope he does not have and knee trouble in the future.

That's all folks! Opinions welcomed.

awesome but roth a C? no way, D- at most. he plays 2 minutes a game n doenst do **** for a 2nd rounder. our 3rd n 4th are doin better hten him. i wonder who else was on teh baord instead of this douche. I think daniels would be a great cb or fs in teh future cuz he is learning as a rookie n he was a 4th roudner n him being able to learn first hand experience and him hanging in there better hten the vet howard shows a lot n his potential. i see a surtain coming along out of daniels. i dono i have a good feeling on it n' his name rings that bell to me.

I think thats a pretty good assessment.

Brown - A+ No doubt we have a punishing stud RB for the next 10 years.

Roth - C - Hes shown flashes of his ability but he clearly has to get stronger in the upper body and work on his technique.

Crowder - A- - Nothing short of I love the viciousness he brings as well as the ability would suffice in my opinion of him. every D needs at least 1 guy who strikes genuine fear in offenses; Channing does.

Daniels - D+ - The grade is mainly for effort and because Im thoroughly convinced hes playing out of position. Hes a spitting image of Eugene Wilson's rookie season. Torched by the better, faster wr's. Hes really a FS and imo he will play there next year. EDIT: My biggest concern's with Daniels as a CB are based on his mediocore speed and lack of ability to react to a receiver's route. He doesnt turn when a wr turns, he tends to play strictly a trail technique or off the ball entirely. For a position thats predicated on speed + hip swivel those are major concerns.

Good post and good analysis also.

I disagree with a few of the Daniel's comments though.

I think he will be a good corner also but he only has average speed.
I would also give him a B and I would give Roth a D+.

It's great to see our rookies starting and doing great though which I have missed in past years. It's great during the week thinking that Ronnie could break a few runs and be a gamebreaker like against Carolina.

I have to say that I was being a little political with the "C" grade on Roth. I've not seen much of him.

I personally don't think his speed is the problem, moreso than the fact he is playing against NFL wideouts that put good moves on him, hence his being out of place. He'll improve.

*EDIT Looking over the posts, I see some good points about Daniels. He may be better suited for FS. I still feel his speed is better than average. His technique may be a little raw off of the line, though.

I hope to see Daniels at FS too.
Do you know how tall he is though? I have heard up to 6"2' and as low as 6"0'
That goes for anyone with info on the subject. (Even if it's a bit off subject)

Agree that a lower grade on Roth would be more fitting. I'd at least give Daniels a C+ or B-. He's been steady, and if we had Poole in with TD in the slot (or even if Poole took the slot), I'm almost sure TD would get a higher grade. With Reggie Howard playing like manure, it loosens up the rest of the D to cover his shortcomings.

It will probably be off before then but it will stay in my mind until Marcus retires or loses his starting job in about 10-12 years.

Brown: A, ROY at the moment. Should have gotten more carries than 9, 8, & 12 in 3 of the past 4 games.
Roth: D, where has he been??
Crowder: B+, not a surprise to me, though I'm still surprised he fell to the 3rd round
Daniels: C, has played decent since being pressed into starting

Ronnie Brown's showed his worth as a 1st round pick. Roth hasn't proved he's worth the 2nd rounder we gave up for Surtain. But I guess he might just need to develop. I thought Daniels deserved a higher grade considering he's a rookie and also has an interception under his belt. I would give Crowder an A- because this guy's already starting to remind me of Ray Lewis when he's out there.

Now if we can just get a potential franchise QB.

I think Daniels has played very well. He rarely gets beat and he is very physical on run support. It can't be easy for a rookie to come into the NFL and face a Super Star each week at WR.

I think he deserves a B grade.
