Anyone know how long his contract is for? I know he's making something like $350K, but i'm sure his next contract is going to be much fatter. I was just curious how long he has left in his current one. I want him to stay as a Marlin.

He's arbitration-eligible for the first time this year. He will likely make between $5 and $6.5 million. He will continue to be eligible for arby until after the 2009 season, when he will have amassed 6 years of service and will be a free agent. I'd bet we'll sign him long-term before that.

Thats exactly what I was about to post.

From what I hear we dont want to sign him, or anyone else to huge long term contracts before we have a stadium deal in place.

Which is understandable. But the good news is, a stadium deal has to be in place by the end of 2007 because it takes 3 years to build a park and they need one preferably by April 2010 but definitely for 2011, since their lease ends before that season. So when the time comes around for Willis and Cabrera and Hanley, for that matter, to sign long-term deals, they'll have their stadium deal.

Makes sense, however if I were the Marlins I wouldn't take that chance. It's sign him up right now. I bet if you offered him a 6 year deal for 90 million he'd sign it right now, he'd be stupid not too. He's worth it that's for sure.

With Wells getting 126 mill he could get more than 90 I'd think. Though he might give a home team discount.

No one with arbitration years left is getting more than Pujols. Simple as that. And with the amount of arby years he has left, if the Marlins do offer 6/$90 (which they won't; it would likely be more along the lines of 8/$80, at least in salary per annum), he would be terribly misinformed if he didn't take it.

A 90% chance he will give a home team discount. This guy loves the Florida Marlins.

Last year in the offseason, he was sad thinking they wouldn't have a chance to compete with any team in the league. So many had the Marlins be the worse team in the league. Look how things turned around after the All Star break.

The entire team and the fans are excited to see what this team can do in a full season. 11-31 was a rough start, and no team who starts 11-31 should even think about the playoffs, especially with a team filled with rookies.

But the maturization process by this team was amazing, and the playoffs weren't so out of reach, though the 11-31 start hurt them in the end.

The difference between Miggy and Wells is that Miggy is still controlled by the team until the end of 2009. Wells is a FA after the year so he could go whereever he wants, Miggy has to go through the whole artibiration process. For him not to sign a long term deal would be stupid, unless he doesn't like playing for the Marlins, because he'll be passing up guranteed money.
