Mike Bibby Traded To Hawks

I think the Hawks did great on this trade. The basically turned Shelton Williams into Mike Bibby. Not sure how Billy Knight did this, does he know Bibby can't play SF.

He's going to play PG. ATL'S point guards are horrid.

They're fine at SF with Marvin Williams and Josh Smith able to man that spot. Sheldon Williams is an undersized PF/C averaging under 3 points a game. Hawks got a good deal here. They should be more worried about PF now. They can now groom Law behind Bibby.

The Hawks have to be the most poorly run franchise in all professional sports. Are they really that desperate to compete for the 8th spot in the east? The trade line should read: Sheldon Williams & Josh Smith for 1.5 yrs of Mike Bibby. Whats the point?

To buy before the trade deadline, make the playoffs, and sell some tickets?

There not trading Josh.

I assume his point is that Bibby's contract makes it too expensive for the Hawks to resign Smith.

The Hawks are saying that they'll spend the money to bring back both Smith and Childress. If that's the case, then the deal makes a lot of sense. Remember that the Hawks are just 2.5 games out of the 6th spot, so that's their goal (not just making the playoffs) since it ensures they avoid Boston or Detroit until the second round. And with Bibby, I think they can do that.

Of course, if Bibby ends up costing them Smith or Childress, then the deal pretty much sucks.

This is the most irrelevant trade in a year of amazing ones. Doesn't really do much for Atlanta except secure their playoff birth in the Weakstern Conference, as if that means anything to begin with because they don't have a chance in hell against Boston and/or Detroit. Hell, they're not even in the Orlando/Cleveland/Toronto/Washington class yet.

Better yet, who is to say Mike Bibby will remain healthy? Lateral move at best.

At the very least he can mentor Law (stud!)... good deal by Sacramento though IMO, they have been going nowhere quickly.

I won't say its a good deal for Sacramento. Shelton Williams is a bad version of Al Horford. They got back 3 expiring contracts back but they did have a hard stance at including Kenny Thomas in any deal (2y 9M) in any deal, so in that aspect they gave in. Williams is servicable if you don't need him to score.

Law I think has a chance to be decent, but isn't getting much playing time on the Hawks now which scares me. On top of that his shooting has been awful for a guy that was a great college shooter (50% FG 45% 3P 06'-07'). He will get a ton more minutes now that Lue and Johnson are gone, and the fact that Bibby is a shoot 1st PG. Bibby's 3P shooting will certainly help the Hawks, they are awful from deep.

I see now way they Hawks should bring back both Smith and Childress. With Johnson at SG and Horford at PF, unless Johnson plays PG (which he does constantly) they only have room for 1 of these guys, because they have to keep Marvin Williams at this point. That being said the window to move one of these guys for an actual player is closing quickly. Horford can play C, but am sure he would be a much much better player at PF.
