Mike McDaniel Is an Absolute CLASS ACT | The Jim Rome Show

I listened to most of that in the car today. Rome has always liked SF, so I'm not surprised what he said about McDaniel.

I spent a lot of time on those islands 🏝 thank you Marine Corps for the 2 year vacation.
This will be our 15th vacation in Hawaii in the last 20 years and 18th visit overall. I really missed visiting Hawaii during Covid but I certainly understood why they were so cautious about letting travelers visit the islands during the pandemic.

We have become friends with several individuals who grew up on Maui during our visits and we always enjoy seeing them on our visits. Many native Hawaiians aren’t real happy with Haole’s that visit or move to the Islands, but most are happy to have us come and spend our money and then leave.

I can understand them not wanting to see their land continue to change so much. I first traveled to Hawaii in 1994 and the changes on Maui and Oahu have been dramatic over all that time. The islands continue to be beautiful but I understand why the native Hawaiians are tired of seeing all the outsiders moving to the state and all the buildings being built to house these outsiders.

Your right they don't like outsiders at all. It's a threat to their culture. Can't blame them.

Very true. Native Hawaiians take outsiders very personal. When outsiders mainland or foreigners move here, they don't try to fit in, they show little if any respect for the culture or customs. Instead they do whatever they like, whenever they like.
Perfect example is a guy who either moved next door or visiting a foreigner next door. He was very rude and showed no class.

I understand that is a big problem and that is why my wife and I have spent time learning about the culture in Hawaii and speaking to many individuals who were born on the island. Unfortunately many visitors only visit for a short period of time and only go to visit the beaches and the rest of the tourist locations.

As someone who has lived in Florida for the last 60 years, I understand what it’s like to see so many new people move here and vacation in the state and care nothing about the way things used to be here before we became one of the most populated States in America.

So I certainly understand how native Hawaiians feel about all the changes that have happened over the years and why they would rather most of those changes had never taken place to begin with.

I always tell my wife that I wish I had been born in Hawaii because I have grown to love the Islands and the people over our many trips there. I don’t know how many more times I will be able to travel to Hawaii because the long flights are getting harder on my back all the time. Yet I will always be thankful for the fact I was fortunate enough to spend a total of nearly 8 months in Hawaii over the 17 times we have visited so far.

That happens everywhere in the country. We're a melting pot. I can only speak to what I've witnessed in CA, but people are always sporting their Mexico flags.

My brother-in-law is Portuguese, and while he flies the flag of Portugal, it's below the Stars and Stripes.

Hawaiians like the revenue the howlies, or however it's spelled, bring to them, but then they talk trash about them, and sometimes worse. I used to live in a Hawaiian foster home, by the way, so I'm not talking out of my ass.
