Mike & Mike: Dungy interview

The thing with Dungy is...

he played with the Steelers in the 70's so he HAS TO KNOW BETTER...

Everything he says is completely affected by his ministry and whatever religious charity work drives him.

Those are things he REALLY cares about. He is not a journalist seeking the truth or a good story, he is a religious guy looking to deliver a message.

The main point for Martin to "claim" he can still play, and wants to play is so that he can recoup life-time earning in the event he wins a lawsuit.

He will claim he feels he cannot return to the NFL because of the work environment but should be compensated, say.... 10 year career at around 2-3 mill a year.

Probably looking for 30-40 million dollars in lost wages.

Long story short.

Martin is a snake who threw his "friend" Incog under the bus for his own profit. Incog actually comes out as the victim in all of this.

Typical Al Sharpton type ****.

Well hopefully Dungy puts a positive thought in some GM's head, that now may wanna trade us for him.. Wait, who's Ireland working for now? ;)

I can not stand Dungy, but this is where he has a lot of value in this Ratfink saga. If anyone can sell, "change of scenery / second chance" to another GM for trade purposes, it's him.

I find it interesting, that with the report looming Philbin is choosing now to be vocal and adamant about the defense of the team. Out side of his remarks at a press conference to address the issue he's been pretty silent.

Even players have been more vocal in their defense.

Must make me believe that nothing is going to happen to the coaching staff, and Philbin is on the offensive to resurrect the Dolphin image.

Even though he hasn't been good Martin still was better than many linemen we had on the roster last year on the line and is worth a roster spot in the nfl based on his talent.
As a left tackle that's a big question mark

That's not saying much considering our lineman talent this season and last has sucked!

That is everyday stuff for attorneys, thay can even switch sides and without missing a beat. Personally I don't understand how they do it.

They can do it because they aren't personally invested in either side. They have an ethical obligation to their client to do as good a job as they can to help them win.

Well when asked about the texts being released Dungy said "To be honest I don't know everything, just what Jonathan told me and showed me"

Here are some tidbits of the Philbin/ Dungy call.
“I told [the Today show] I thought Jonathan Martin could play in the NFL but needed a different situation than the Dolphins locker room, a better locker room situation for him than Miami was. Coach Philbin called me and wanted to know what I meant by that,” Dungy said. “He called me and let me know his feelings. It wasn’t any animosity at all. He just wanted to get some things across from his point of view about what the Miami Dolphins locker room was like, and what [the bullying saga] was all about.”

When Dungy was asked how he would have handled the bullying saga, which centers on Martin’s claims his teammate, Richie Incognito, created a hostile working environment for him differently, Dungy pointed out Philbin’s hands were tied because Martin never made his head coach aware of the alleged treatment he was experiencing.

“He never went to coach Philbin and told him what was going on, even when he left the team. [Martin] said he was having personal problems and needed to get some help, but never explained why and never talked about it,” Dungy added. “As a coach you can’t deal with something if you don’t know what’s going on.

“Now, the other side of the coin is you’ve got to have the right type of people, and the right type of leadership in the locker room so that kind of thing doesn’t happen.”

1. He's a a media personality

2. He has the highest winning percentage of any NFL coach in history (averaged over 10 wins a season)

3. He still is highly respected by many in the NFL

He has chosen to defend/mentor/be an advocate for Mike Vick & J Martin. If that doesn't negate his credibility than what does?

It really wasn’t confrontational. Coach Philbin saw the piece on the Today show where I said at the end I think Jonathan Martin can play

but he’s going to need the right type of locker room. I didin’t think the Miami locker room was a good sittuation for him.

I agree, I am sure there are many women's football leagues out there, where he could play, but they better be careful where he goes, some of those women's locker rooms are pretty tough, and could make Jon take off again.

Maybe Dungy can get his boy Caldwell to trade for him.
