Correct me if I'am wrong, but is Jason Garret calling the plays? I know that he calls them into the QB's headset, but is he the one calling he plays?

Jason Garret doesnt call the plays

Mularkey calls the plays down from the box to Garrett's headset... Then Garrett sends it into the QB's helmet... Personally I think Saban should get Mularkey on the field like he did with Linehan last year... Once Linehan got onto the field level our offense was a lot better

I bet you that Garrett will be Mularkey's replacement when he leaves.

You bring up a very fine point Steve. Me and my buddy were talking about this the other night. Yes he is relaying the calls, but people forget that Saban said hands off Garrett for the rest of the league which tells me that he is next in line for OC because Mularky will take feelers for HC in years to come. Saban is preparing, like a good HC should do.

I also think Garret is telling Joey what to look for. I think it's why Joey is playing so well. Joey is happy because Saban wants to succeed at all cost and Joey benefits from that.

Agreed. This guy is going to make a very good OC and maybe even a HC some day. Lets just hope he stays around here long enough to take the reigns from Mularkey and doesn't get the job somewhere else first.

i hate conservative play calling.....what happened to us using linehans system this year? the preseason shows short passes short dumps and a lot A LOT of running the ball for short gains and 3rd and longs :(

This is the pre-season. Noone is using everything in the playbook. We're still running the same system so the long bombs are still there. Especially with Pep at QB. Just don't expect to keep throwing fade after fade in the red zone like last year against NE. We spent a #2 pick on a RB so we should use him. I liked Linehan's playcalling last year and it was great to finally see some passing in Miami, but I have to admit that it was a litle too much at times. Especially with Gus' accuracy problems.

Linehan wasn't exactly airing it out last year in the pre-season either.

The reason I brought this up was because I noticed that JG was holding a playchart in front of his face when he was calling in the play.
