Mike Nolan keeps a level head after Dolphins' defensive collapse

"No panic at all," Dolphins defensive end Jared Odrick said. "It was just, 'Let's move on to the next team.' There's a lot of games left. There's a lot of opportunities to prove we can be a great defense in this league."

So many buttons Nolan pushed a year ago for the Dolphins' defense were the right ones, but not much the veteran coordinator tried in this season opener seemed to work.

I have been thinking about this whole defensive collapse all week and one thing keeps coming to mind.

It wasn't very long ago that a Miami team strolled into Foxboro and made a damn good Pats team look like fools by hanging 461 yards of offense and 38 points on a team that was bewildered by the Wildcat.

Miami's defense is not 600+ yards a week bad. Will they end up Top 5 in the league, who knows but they are most certainly not going to end up bottom 10 in the league either.

Personally I'm glad to see this reaction.

I just said in another post that I am more comfortable with them after seeing this confident of a reaction. Very similar to the reaction to all the Media/fan hate for Henne in the preseason when they wouldn't pull the trigger on Orton......now they seem they knew what they were talking about. The confidence shows me that they know exactly what they did wrong and fixing it is not that big of a deal. Our D will be different this week.

TE's are TE's on every team. It's a position that should be accounted for. If by chance you seem to be getting lit up in the first half, anyone would think that the DC would make changes to cover the TE's in the second half.
Not only did TE's kill us last year but the first game this year as well. On Nolan. Not changing anything the second half-On Nolan.

I believe we turn it around this week. I believe for us to be successful this week we need to do the following things...

1. Wrap up. You can't be a good defense if you cant tackle a guy for huge loss. That is what stood out mostly for me in the pats
game.

2. Conditioning. Every team saw the game on Sunday and the texans are going to come out and try it early and often.

3. Communication. People have got to communicate and figure out where to line up.

4. Coverage. It was god awful Monday. And this team won't survive another night like that again they need to play the coverage right and not give the recievers such huge cushions.

5. Tight Ends. Honestly this **** has gotta stop. Younthink Dansby or somebody would be getting mad. And how is it that no other team noticeably has this problem.

6. Pass rush. Schaub is no Brady but still a good QB. We need to be in his face early and often.

That is what are defense needs to do in order to win every Sunday the rest of the year.

I like Nolan's attitude and approach this week and think it will pay off on Sunday and going forward. Props to him for keeping the guys focused.

I'm I oNe of the few who believe we are going to beat down the texans Sunday? Embarrassing def performance, every one picking Houston to win, and we've owed them one for quite a while... The perfect storm is brewing....

It is impotent that the corrections occur. Cam Wake, Reshad Jones, and Sean Smith made a lot of technical mistakes. They just need to clean that up a little. I am glad that Nolan is calm and that he understands the defense will not clean up all of these issues in one week. It is very important for the offense to play well this week.

I think Brady beat us with his mind more than anything else.. Nolan blitzed way more in that Pats game then he has in any other game. I think we will get back to basics for this coming game..

I hope that Nolan tells the dbs to put their hands on the wrs this week. I hate seeing all the opponents wrs free release near the goal line and on third downs. That is my biggest gripe from the Pats game, we're playing a timing based offense and all our dbs are playing 6 yards off.

Marino hit the nail on the head on that radio show.....the Pats receivers were given 15 yards cushion. We should have at least jammed them within the first 5 yards. Didn't happen even once.

See even Marino agrees with me, I have to be right!

Makes me wonder if Nolan doesnt have confidence in our DB's ability to jam. Except for maybe Davis.

The reason he blitzed so much is that we could not get any pass rush and even with all the blitzes Brady seemed to have all day. We did not get any pass rush going and as a result the WR/TEs had all day to get uncovered. That is a big concern going forward.

I assume that Nolan knows that Smith is the most soft core player in the league since Neon Dieon so surely he wont ask him to jam, even though he should. Seems like he would have forced Sapp to do something after being repedately burned. Carrol is the same way. I just dont understand at halftime why he didnt sit them down and say start jamming these damn wrs or i'll find somebody tuesday that will.
