This is terrible news. Garner is his backup but what are all of our options? Any creative alternatives will be welcomed.
Are there any obvious free agent for consideration?

Brenner is the replacement at this point. They better be very comfortable with him, because I don't think Pouncey will play much if at all this season.

Omar Kelly ‏@OmarKelly

Shelley Smith has handled center snaps every practice I've watched, and did it in some team drills last week. Dolphins do have options folks
Ralph Cindrich ‏@RalphCindrich

@OmarKelly @drgiauque very few can't play center that can play left guard and tackle.

Hopefully everybody else can stay healthy.

Maybe Kyle Cook? Haven't watched him, at 290 he's got the right size for zone but not sure how athletic he is. Adequate pass blocker...we are desperate.

Never saw him play but, still being available does say something. I think the best we can hope for will be from late cuts or, maybe even a trade.

Tyler Larsen : "Larsen attended Utah State University and played for the Aggies from 2009 to 2013. As a freshman, he played in the first two games of the season before sustaining an season ending knee injury and was awarded a medical redshirt season. Returning in 2010, Larsen would go on to start 52 consecutive games at center for the Aggies, earning himself first-team All-WAC honors twice (2011, 2012) and first-team All-MWC in his final season. Larsen also made the watch lists for each the Rimington Trophy[2] and the Outland Trophy[3] his final 2 years (2012, 2013), and was nominated as a finalist for the Rimington Trophy in 2013.

He's a diamond that we got for a song.

In this league you are only as good as your backups.

Good teams lose a starter only to have a backup come in and play as good or better (see:Seattle losing starting CB, Denver losing TE, etc.).

We lose one starter on the OL for 3 months and already our season is doubtful.

Which shows how utterly stupid the recent article was that highlighted Miami depth. One year removed from Ireland and we have quality DEPTH as a team? Right.

We have positions stacked up w. mediocrity and question marks.

And a good QB and DL. One playmaker WR.

That's about it right now as far as sure things.

Maybe trade for a real Center? The Center position is the QB of the O-line. We gotta fix this and not try to put another band aid on things.

first option - move Smith to center and bring in Turner and Thomas at guards
second - while I think the team will use Brenner or Garner I would use Larsen. He is a true center. He had a draftable grade, but he is a rookie.

Avon Barksdale.

He could put a crew together pretty quick to handle distribution.

Yeah we have decent depth at a lot of positions except.....o-line. Even with that Albert would be the biggest loss by far.

Could we move smith to center and sign a veteran guard? Wharton or wade smith and a few others are still out there.

We don't -- NOT if you are looking at talent and upside and playmaking ability. We have mediocre at a LOT of positions and guys behind them who can't push them for a job.

The only two positions that we are truly deep at are QB and DL. After that it's mediocre starters, low drafted or undrafted guys or poorly-performing higher drafted guys.

That's not depth. Depth is when you lose a high-level playmaking starter only to have the backup come in and play the position even better -- because you drafted for talent/upside and developed that person.
