What is the word on the street with Mike Sherman? Or should I say the feelings of other posters here.

On one had he has some tremendous achievements on the other hand he has some failures too. I don't know that much about him and how good he is. Was he just lucky some years to have great teams to work with or was he a large part of the success. He seems to have some failure seasons too, but I guess everyone does at some point. Thoughts on Sherman?

He seems like one of those guys that will always be a better coordinator than a head coach.

I think we have to wait and see on this one. Some guys have success as a HC, some guys are better as coordinators. I personally am not very familiar with his previous teams and offenses so I'm going with the wait-and-see approach. I do like the idea of a fast paced attacking offense though.

He was actually pretty good with the Packers as their head coach. Never made it to a Super Bowl, but usually won at least 10 games every season and had a couple playoff victories. He was just OK with Texas A&M nothing really special, but I know that quite a few Aggie fans were upset when the school let him go. I think his biggest downfall in college was recruiting and not so much his coaching ability. He certainly has had success in the NFL with the Packers, Seahawks and Texans, so I wouldn't be real concerned that he is going to flop in Miami.

Yeah, I wasn't saying he was a bad head coach, but it seems like there are guys that can be a decent head coach or a really good coordinator. They just do better when they focus on their one area. I have always had Sherman in that group.

I have a friend who is a Steelers fan and he was not pleased when he was the OC.

Can your friend actually express why he wasn't a fan? Far too often I see people who are fans of other teams (or even Miami) who criticize former coaches without having any basis or idea about why.

"Oh trust me! I'm a "insert team here" fan, and he SUCKED"
"Why?"
"Well uh we only won 8 games!"

Well that's all I needed to hear!

His A & M offense was ranked 10th last year in total offense. I think he's a better offensive mind than a head coach although he's had success at both.

His offenses in Houston were pretty bad but they were working with David Carr so... I'm not going to judge solely on that

Mike Sherman was the OC in Houston for only one season, 2007. That was the season The Texans traded for Matt Shaub and finished 14th in total offense and 12th in scoring offense.

Reminds me of Mike Nolan. He is a damn good coordinator, but not a great HC.

Not a great head coach but a darn good one for the Packers. Three straight division titles and one losing season that cost him his job.

Also like Scott Linehan. Very good OC in Minnesota and here in Miami, but when he got a chance as head coach with the Rams, he bombed. Seems to be doing good now since he is back as an OC with the Lions.

The cool thing about Sherman is that he has success as both an OC and as a head coach. There is a reason he keeps getting head coaching jobs and almost landed the Buccaneers job this offseason. Obviously having coached Tannehill in college makes him even a bigger hiring. Hopefully another head coaching job in the NFL or college doesn't present itself to him anytime soon. We need him here to develop Tannehill.
