The Eagles probably wouldn’t have Carson Wentz without their trade with Miami. (Getty Images)
The Dolphins have been active on the trade market the past two offseasons under Mike Tannenbaum, and he recently offered some insight into how he views deals.

For Tannenbaum, it’s important not only to get good value on his trades, but also to make sure Miami maintains a reputation as an organization with which other teams are comfortable negotiating. When looking back at last year’s swap of the No. 8 pick for the Eagles’ No. 13, plus Byron Maxwell and Kiko Alonso, Tannenbaum takes pride in knowing the trade worked out for Philadelphia as well.

The Eagles were able to package that pick and others to get the No. 2 selection from Cleveland and take quarterback Carson Wentz. Miami, meanwhile, caught a big break with Laremy Tunsil plummeting to them at 13th.

I think hes right,we got a player, Laremy Tunsil, we would've draft at the 8th spot plus two other starter.

But I'll be happy if he doesn't trade away any more picks

Ozzy rules!!

Other possible candid answers: "Oh we got the better deal in that trade, we fleeced them so bad they're still looking for the sheep"

Or more appropriately on the other side of the coin "We made such a bad trade, what crazy owner keeps me employed? They should just put out a sign 'Suckers here. Call now!'"

So yeah what else would Trader Mike say?

I think we won that trade by a landslide. The Eagles then made another trade to get to number 2.

At the time it was widely viewed that we got fleeced. It's always good to let it play out and it did for us.

PS and if someone didn't release the gas mask vid the day of the draft , Tunsil probably gets drafted #6 to Baltimore and then who does Miami take at 13?

You never ever trade down at the top of the draft without getting draft picks in return.

Well that and I don't agree with ever trading down til you know what's available at your spot.

I thought there was maybe 5 truly exceptional players in the draft: Tunsil, Ramsey, Bosa, Elliott, and Wentz. The chances of one of them dropping down to 8 was pretty slim and 13 nearly impossible. I felt that the Dolphins gave up the pick too early. But it worked out okay so what do I know. I still think it's a bad strategy.

Who cares? We got a starting LT for a while. Sometimes the NFL is luck. I'm happy on the rare occasions luck strikes Miami

Well, I guess you don't care. But football is all about planning the options. Do they run, do they pass? If a team takes the player we want right before our pick, what do we do? So seeing what the front office does actually does matter because more often than not they continue to have a very similar strategy.

Tannenbaum's biggest flaw is his Tunnel Vision. He focuses in on one particular outcome to the practical exclusion of all else. This is a good trait probably for a sports agent, but a pretty poor one imho for a football executive.

The question I would like to know is who did we have pegged at 13 if Tunsil had not dropped? In reality, when Mike made the trade he did not make the trade for Tunsil but someone else.

What the Eagles did after trading with us is irrelevant. It was a good trade for Miami. Kudos to Tannenbaum for making it. Make another one just like it.

Then Miami would have had players like Shaq Lawson, William Jackson III, Artie Burn, (Including one of the remaining players of DeForest Buckner...Jack Conklin...Leonard Floyd...Eli Apple...Vernon Hargreaves...Sheldon Rankins)...With that selection, Miami would still have to be considered the winner.
