The Dolphins hope that a new offensive coordinator and improvement on the offensive line will lead to bigger things from Wallace and the entire passing game, but Wallace is open to finding other ways to contribute as well. “I might get back there for kickoff returns,” Wallace said, via Sky Sports. “I just want to be on the field making an impact for my team. I’ve always wanted to return kicks ever since I’ve been in the NFL. … At this point of my career, I just want to get the ball in my hands and make some plays.”
There hasn’t been any other word out of Miami about Wallace returning kickoffs, so it may turn out to be that Wallace’s big role on offense precludes special teams work in the regular season. That’s what happened when Wallace returned kicks for the Steelers in the preseason, but it may be something to watch if the Dolphins are unable to maximize Wallace’s production as a receiver again this season.

17 Million dollar kick returner gets injured on kickoff return. I can see how that will go over.

Wallace is fast but not very elusive. I'm not so sure he would make a great returner anyway.

Watch his steelers tape before you say he isnt elusive.. He finds holes and slips through them.. I would be okay with this

I've seen a lot of his Steeler games and he's not a Desean Jackson type of player. Not knocking him or saying he's not a good player, he just doesn't make people miss like Jackson or Barry Sanders type of players do.

You dont always have to stop to make people miss.. There is more to being elusive than jukes.. Speed is a weapon.. Ginn had no jukes really most his returns were using that speed to find a crease

Ginn also ran out of bounds at the sign of any defender. :chuckle:

I don't think he could beat out Landry for that job anyway...all it would take would be a drop or two, he's at least shown that ability.

My take: Wallace has done little to earn his $17 million. So what if he may injure himself...he could injure himself on a pass reception as well. What are we saving him for. I hope we can bring in Andre Johnson, on a side note.

i don't think landrys winning any kick off return job he's not explosive enough...he could win the punt return gig but my moneys on thigpen once again winning both return jobs and making the 53...

mike wallace if this offense is what i think it is is too valuable to lose on returns...and god knows charles clay wants his presence on the field to open up things for him down the seam etc

will be interesting to see the first quarter of the season vs say the first half if they really trust the protection...in other words is wallace gonna run stop routes every time he is given a cushion if it's not pa cause the oc doesnt trust the protection and we can't afford to wait for wallace to invade and blow by bailing or off coverage...

last year i saw an awful lot of stop routes etc on off coverage where with the steelers they didnt care they still worked the field vertical with wallace and let the routes develop...true sign they trusted the protection
