Mike Wallace.....the dead horse

If we would actually go up for some of these deep balls instead of trying to catch them in stride we'd be better off.
 
I expected him to be more involved, but that wasn't the routes he was told to run in this game. They used him mostly for the deep ball, and Tanny was off target a couple times. The shorter routes they used Clay. And without Wallace drawing the coverage, the other pass catchers wouldn't have been as open. The announcers said repeatedly the Steelers were blanketing Wallace and leaving other people open.
 
The way I see it, for now his cap hit is compensated for by the very manageable amount our starting QB makes... for now....

I think this is the key. Tannehill has missed some sure-fire TD's to Wallace quite a few times. He has also hit some in stride for long receptions to others like Hartline and Clay (a great pass to him today). If Tanne can fine tune that timing this off-season with Wallace and hit on even 30% of what he has missed this year, it could be a very dangerous combination that will translate to points and wins.
 
Are you kidding me? If you actually watched the game you'd notice that Wallace took all the defenders away on Clays 1st TD! Watch the replay. They all break for Wallace leaving Clay wide open. The Steelers played a lot for Wallace and that let Hartline and especially Clay get open. Ugh watch the damn plays

it will happen too. The entire offense is still figuring out stuff. Like today and the read option. I think we are getting a little better at setting up the screens.

but yeah, once the entire offense gets settled into the point where they dont need to think as much, Wallace will get bigger numbers, but so will everyone else. That is the key to a Philbin offense.

This is just an uneducated comment. You mean to tell me they purposely triple teamed Wallace on that play because they were afraid of his breakaway speed when the Dolphins were on the 6 yard line?! Because he is such a red zone threat? Totals b.s.

Anyone who understands football knows that was a blown coverage. Jonathan Martin could have ran that crap route on that play and Clay would have still been wide open.

Wallace's days as a decoy are numbered. The book on him is getting out- he has bad hands; he's not tough and wont battle for the ball; and he and his QB have no deep ball chemistry. I wouldn't waste my defense keying on this guy. Wish the Dolphins would cut him loose and hire a man to replace. I mean, a real man.

yep. I know he draws attention, but how much longer, and how much attention, is he going to warrant when the book becomes evident: he wont make the tough catch; he is prone to drops on "easy" plays; and he and RT aren't on the same page on the deep ball? I think he adds something to the offense, and we are better having him there at times than not, but from a team point of view the question is "what could we do with all that money?" Another Hartline type WR would stress a Defense more than Wallace- one who is still a threat to go deep but can and will make any play in the book.

He dropped 2 very catchable balls today. They weren't the best throws, but c'mon man. Fight for the ball or just friggin' jump......it's that simple. Throw a block too. There was one play that if he had thrown a block on the defender we would have scored.

I know he is a fabulous decoy and is very dangerous when he gets a good throw in the open field, but does everything have to be served to him on a platter to make a play???

Yup, I feel your pain. I never thought that Wallace was a #1....he is not a true #1 WR IMHO
 
Awww, sour grapes on Wallace for the one point he got you in fantasy football yesterday?

Look, he was never going to be Megatron like or Andre Johnson like or even Brandon Marshall like . . . that is not his game. He's here to spread the field, draw double coverage to leave guys open underneath and catch the occassional bomb . . . and when teams decide to single him up, make them pay. Sure it hasn't been perfect this season, but his impact on the field is very evident.

You do realize we won the game today . . . right?
 
The way the Steelers paid attention to him opened up other outlets on the field. The good thing about Tannehill is he doesn't try to force the ball all that often, he is usually able to find the open man.
