One of the tangible changes Dolphins interim coach Dan Campbell has made is to get the ball to running back Lamar Miller more often.

And Miller’s paying him back for that faith.

After rushing for 175 yards in the Dolphins’ demolition of the Texans, Miller said the change from Joe Philbin to Campbell during the bye week helped him relax for several reasons, but specifically because he didn’t have to worry about getting enough work.

“Earlier in the year, I was worried about how many opportunities I was going to get,” Miller said, via Walter Villa of the Miami Herald. “I wasn’t getting the ball that much. So every time I got it I was trying to make a big play, and I wasn’t reading my keys.

“Now, I’m trusting my offensive line more. They’ve been getting a lot of movement. I’m being patient and decisive.”

Miller’s run the ball 33 times the last two games, for 288 yards. He didn’t have more than 13 carries in any game over the first four, and clearly didn’t think he had enough to get into a rhythm. But he also likes the personality change Campbell has brought.

“I think it has something to do with it,” Miller said. “Every day, [Campbell] preaches, ‘Win your one-on-one battles.’ I’m just trying to win my battles and make explosive plays.”

He's been explosive for sure. Already with 4 20+ runs...that's tied for 8th in the NFL with 5 other running backs and Miller has less carries than all of them but Ryan Matthews.

Damn 33 for 288 that's killer over two games. Just keep Williams on the bench.

this guy was left for dead by Philbin. Did lazor wake up one day and just call better plays?

I don't think we'll ever know, since Lazor apparently really likes Joe and I highly doubt he'd throw him under the bus.

Miller's career avg is 4.8 ypc. LeSean McCoy's average is 4.6 ypc. And Miller has done it with questionable o-lines. Feed the man!!! He opens up the passing game for us.

Miller's yards per carry numbers are incredible for a guy that looks so pedestrian in a vacuum. He doesn't do any one thing great and he's always been kind of bad out of the backfield. Its going to be real interesting to see what kind of contract he gets in the offseason.

He does do one thing great. He gets up the field. That's a running backs primary job.. He doesn't dance, and he doesn't bowl people over so he doesn't jump out at you, but he is superlative finding the holes when they are there (contrary to what some would have you think), he is shifty, and while he isn't a bruiser when he has a head of steam he always falls forward for an extra yard of two. Add his speed into the mix and he is a top level RB. My only question about his game is durability, but he has held up so far. I just wonder if coaches have always limited his touches for a reason.

Williams doesn't deserve to be the number two back. I hope Gray gets some Carrie against NE. You know he wants to run it down their throats.
