One of the tangible changes Dolphins interim coach Dan Campbell has made is to get the ball to running back Lamar Miller more often.
And Miller’s paying him back for that faith.
After rushing for 175 yards in the Dolphins’ demolition of the Texans, Miller said the change from Joe Philbin to Campbell during the bye week helped him relax for several reasons, but specifically because he didn’t have to worry about getting enough work.
“Earlier in the year, I was worried about how many opportunities I was going to get,” Miller said, via Walter Villa of the Miami Herald. “I wasn’t getting the ball that much. So every time I got it I was trying to make a big play, and I wasn’t reading my keys.
“Now, I’m trusting my offensive line more. They’ve been getting a lot of movement. I’m being patient and decisive.”
Miller’s run the ball 33 times the last two games, for 288 yards. He didn’t have more than 13 carries in any game over the first four, and clearly didn’t think he had enough to get into a rhythm. But he also likes the personality change Campbell has brought.
“I think it has something to do with it,” Miller said. “Every day, [Campbell] preaches, ‘Win your one-on-one battles.’ I’m just trying to win my battles and make explosive plays.”
