Recently had a conversation with my father about the RB situation and wanted to ask the message board. Sorry if its been posted or asked before, But, With the (kinda sorta ) emergence of Ajayi as a possible workhorse back and Miller coming up on Free Agency what would be your price tag for Lamar miller to resign or would you let him walk for Ajayi to take over the number one role

My take is 4 Mill per year, anything more than that and I say lets save the money

Miller AND Ajayi would be better. I think Lamar likes it here and may give us a home town discount.

Ajayi has looked good in limited action and I think this is our RB combo going forward.

I think the board is and always has undersold Miller's talent. I'd go a bit further than you to sign him. He's a legit weapon now in the passing game along with being at the top of the league in YPC the last few years. I think he's worth a bit over $5mil/season, but if we are going to pay him, we need to use him.

Miller is a very good running back who is under utilized. I would definitely not let him walk unless the money becomes unreasonable.

I like what I see out of Ajayi.....but with his injury history and further development in blocking, I think Miller is an important player to keep.

How about BOTH!

i agree, but the question was at what price is Miller too expensive, i agree he is under utilized and he has never gotten 20 touches i dont think,

but lets look at places like Dallas, NYG, Cleveland, Indy are among teams that could pull the trigger on upwards to 5 or or 5.5 M a year, and Miller can give a discount as much as he wants because he was born and raised in S FLA, BUT if we are offering 3.5 and another team will certainly offer more AND the promise to be used correctly as a work horse? we are possibly looking at loosing him,

think of the question similarly to Charles Clay, how much is TOO much

I know my view is unpopular, but I still believe Miller is a Solid number 2, who can spell the number 1 role if needed. Miller seems to do better when a true number 1 is doing good. Example is miller always needed a truck sized hole to make big gains and is easily arm tackled, when Moreno got here, miller seemed to run harder. I'd like to see if Ajayi can take the number 1 spot. So if I had to choose between the 2, I pick Ajayi. I'm not concerned about money, i'll let Aponte worry about that.

I hope we do everything in our power to keep Miller, but if the money gets too insane, then let him walk.

Miller was born in Miami , played at Killian HS and the university of Miami before the Fin's drafted him. He may decide to test free agency if we don't make him an offer first like Clay did but I've got to believe they are already working on a deal and if it is reasonable I think he takes it.
4 - 5 million for 4 years sounds about right IMO
Hopefully we learned a lesson from Clay and get it done sooner rather than later.

The question of how much is too much is answered with how much does it cost to replace him. I don't think we should just go with Ajayi, and a bunch of vet minimum or late draft picks behind him. Jonathan Stewart makes $7mil per year, and Shane Vereen even makes $4 million per. I think a contract at over $6 million per season isn't out of the question for Miller. There is a fair amount of competition out there for free agent bucks at RB (Chris Johnson, Chris Ivory, Matt Forte, LeGarratte Blount) so maybe that helps.

i actually felt the same way, If Knowshon remained healthy Miller wouldnt have been playing..., im only concerned about money because of OV

I think Johnson for example stays in Arizona, and IMHO if we can get the discount for 4 or less fine, but i KNOW if he tests FA he can get 5 or 6 from a place like Dallas, who can promise to be more efficient with using him than just giving him 10 or 11 touches a game, as a matter of fact he can sign a contract for a year or two and test FA again, the options are in his favor as an FA, so getting Ajayi on rookie wage is a blessing if he continues to run as violently as he has.

I want both, but having Ajayi showing promise does make Miller a little more expendable than we thought at the beginning of the season
