Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel expects Packers to use tag on Flynn now

Ted Thompson is not a stupid man. He knows he'll have a trade for Flynn and the Seahawks GM has already said he will not make a big move at QB. What team does that leave? Hmmm?

The only thing that could change this is that I've read that Pete Carroll really wants Barker when he comes out. With that said I still think if the Pack do in fact franchise Flynn than they have a deal in place with either the Seahawks or us.

hell i want barkley also...but just like luck this year barring you having the top pick in the draft ie you are the worst team in football in 2012 there's no guarantee what you want will happen...

i'm sure a bunch of teams want barkley...it ruined my week when the kid decided to go back to school for real...carroll can't afford to just assume he'll get his guy next year especially if his front office is endorsing flynn as a high end pro qb...

i agree though that if flynn does get tagged thompsons worked out a deal under the table for a trade...and it likely comes to fruition as in the under the table wink wink this weekend at indy...if the pack tag flynn during or right after the combine we'll know whats up...someones agreed to trade for him...and its likely a 2nd round compensation

3 straight losing seasons for Ireland. He has to win now and he won't put his career on the shoulders of a rookie.

But of course he will on possibly the next Kolb, Feeley , Cassel or Scott Mitchell, only drafted a lot later and with a lot less of a sample size, eh?

teams will be all in potential free agent player ears this weekend at indy...if miami is truly gonna make a play on mario williams you can bet bottom dollar his agent will be contacted this weekend...there will be an under the table meeting or exchange of some sort...these guys don't know what teams they're gonna visit within minutes of the midnight opening of free agency cause everthings been done above board...they have ideas of whos in their money ballpark etc and have eliminated teams from contention well before that clock strikes midnight...they know who is willing to butter their bread and who's out of contention...

flynn will have a general idea of his market within a week...if he doesn't already

It is a huge gamble for the Packers to tag Flynn. And if it backfired, the Packers backup QB's salary would almost double the Packers starter, the reining NFL MVP. I don't see how you can take that gamble and hope that some other team will be willing to spend a high draft pick AND Big money to an unproven QB. And if the other teams did not come calling, it would freeze the Packers out of free agency completely. Just dont see it.

i seriously doubt ireland is gonna bet his future on a soon to be 29 year old rookie qb in the draft...ireland who's already on thin ice cause of the qb position is not gonna bet his future on that play...you wanna put your head on a chopping block burn a top 40 pick on a 29 year old rookie qb and have him not pan out...off with your head

nothing against weeden i think he's a solid top 50-75 value but its gonna likely have to be a gm and head coach but primarily gm on very firm ground in the near future that pulls the trigger on weeden in the top 40 picks

So why then would they use a TOP 10 pick on a QB who has a season and half under his belt? A very Raw project QB.

He's been in the NFL for 4 years practicing and playing in some games.

Says you but everything from the last two offseasons says he's a little more teflon than you think

I think he's a lot more Teflon than most people think. Not only does Ross seem to think he has put together a talented team but his right hand man Carl Peterson has also known Ireland for years.

If they tag Flynn, they will have Finley locked up, their center locked up, and hope they have deal worked out for Flynn. I don't see it happening either.

It's far from a gaurantee that GB is going to take this gamble. GB was around 5 million under the cap before today's resigning of Finley. Depending on how the contract is structured they have to be close to the cap. With the franchise tag price for a QB being somewhere between 14.3 and 14.9 million dollars, they're going to have to trim quite a few players just to fit Flynn under the cap. If they can't find a taker for him, they're going to have a very uneventful offseason

I think we'll trade our second round pick for Flynn.

Why would you trade a 2nd rounder for Flynn and pay him $8 million when he has just 2 NFL starts, when you can draft Tannehill and pay him $3 Million and......he has only 2 less NFL starts then Flynn? No Thank you. BTW you can also address the O-line with that 2nd rounder,
