Miami did do a little work on redzone drills, and to no ones surprise Trent Green took the first series at quarterback. His first three passes were incomplete - with Will Allen making a nice knock down on the first attempt. Then Green hit Chris Chambers on a mid-range slant for a short touchdown pass (those two seem like they've been together for years with their timing, and it's only week one).
Ginn redeemed himself one play later when he turned on the afterburners on a drag route that actually made cornerback Michael Lehan collide with an unknown linebacker in pursuit. The play showed that Ginn's extremely hard to catch when he has the ball in his hands (duh!). It'll be interesting to see if he remains this quick when the pads come on, but I suspect he will because Ginn runs so effortlessly.
Rookie quarterback John Beck threw the prettiest pass of the day, hitting David Sutton for a 25-yard touchdown pass, showing off the nice touch I've long heard about. In the six practices I witnessed in the past week it was the first time Beck got a "WOW" out of me. It was a great pass, and a great catch. I realized I had given Sutton too much credit for the play after he dropped his next pass, which wasn't half as hard a ball to pull in.
My other "WOWS" from Wednesday came during position drills as I observed that Rodrique Wright has a very good spin move that should be effective in pass rushing. But he wasn't the defensive tackle that caught my eye the most. That distinction belongs to Somoan rookie Paul Soliai, and I have to admit he's pigued my interest for three practices now. Of course all of what I saw was without pads, but Soliai has a very powerful push, and appears to be extremely agile.
