Minicamp Day 2 Report

Impact. He's the highest paid fullback in the NFL. He needs to show he is the best of the 24 remaining fullbacks in the game.

I have no problem with the guy and love his blocking, but I don't think the position is worth it anymore due to how the game has changed in the past decades. The days of Csonka have faded.

So do you want no changes? Just let him get 10 carries for 17 yards every year? His receiving skills are great, but we didn't use him enough - less than a hundred yards for the season.

Lol. In any case, sounds like you are set with our current team. 🤣
When Ingold was out we all felt it in the running game..he’s a guy who you can’t just judge based off stats, he adds a lot of value through his leadership community outreach etc, not to mention he’s a fantastic blocker.

Hes underutilized in the passing game imo, teams aren’t expecting to get the ball thrown his way so I think if we can sprinkle in a screen or quick pass to the flat for him here or there I think it would be quite successful.

Yep, very nice guy. As you said, if we'd use him more in the passing game it would really help many things. Targeted 12 times last year, caught 10. 8.7 yards/catch.

He also played a bit hurt most of last season. Laying some of those blocks would certainly hurt me.

I think Ingold's value to the team is a tick above a great special team utility player... Seems to be a great locker room lunch pail type of guy and to be frank, the bottom of the Fins 55 isn't particularly great.... I think there are plenty of guys you can get rid of before him if you really need a spot.
The team would tend to disagree with your assessment -

"MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins fullback Alec Ingold has the best nickname on the team. And he earned it the old-fashioned way — by knocking guys into the dirt.

“That’s why we call him ‘The Hit Man,’ ” quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said.
“What people don’t understand is, so Alec Ingold makes a block,” coach Mike McDaniel began. “Well, when he comes from the backfield and goes into the line of scrimmage and blocks whomever, half the team adjacent to him has better angles at their blocks.

“So a fullback allows you to every play, not only is he executing his block, but he’s made the angle better for the center on his target, which helps him execute his blocks.”

In other words, Ingold, who has 18 carries for 25 yards and two touchdowns in three seasons with the Dolphins, is essential for the run game’s success, possibly as essential as running back De’Von Achane or former running back Raheem Mostert (now with Las Vegas).

It was the low-profile Ingold who cleared the way for Mostert in his Pro Bowl season of 2023, when Mostert had a franchise-record 18 rushing touchdowns."

Both Kyle and Alec are making about $4m AAV. Kyle is 36 and Alec is 28. Kyle has made nearly $50m in his career and Alec has made $14m. You’re not only using a straw man to debate me but you’re moving goalposts and ignoring the context in their contracts.

Again, you claimed you wanted 1st downs. He’s been better than the best FB over the past few years at getting 1st downs. I showed you that so now you’re changing your criteria.

Bottom line, when Alec hasn’t played the Dolphins run games suffers. You don’t think he’s worth a 3yr $12m contract, fine, but at least have a coherent reason.

The reports on the young secondary are encouraging. They've appearently displayed sticky coverage skills, with Tua having to make pin point, down field throws just to get a completion.

Johnson, Duck, Adams and Marshall have all had their moments. It also seems like there is a more aggressive man coverage scheme, approach this year. Starting to see some quick development amongst the 2nd year kids.

Agree to disagree on all accounts.

I yell at the TV every time we throw him a pass.

I’m liking what I’m hearing and seeing from Tua as well, lead these guys by example…if Tua and MCDaniel get more serious and lead by example then I will start to change my opinion on their lack of leadership till now.

Keep it up through the season and let’s get a ****ing playoff win…or 4

“I’ve been here for five years going on six. Are you not tired of what we’ve done these past five years?” quarterback and team captain Tua Tagovailoa said Tuesday, likely referring to Miami’s reputation of being a soft team, one that’s plagued by late-season nose dives, a 25-year drought of not winning a playoff game and the perception that the Dolphins can’t play in the cold or beat playoff teams (4-16 record in three years). “If you are, then why aren’t we doing anything about it?” said Tagovailoa, the only quarterback in the NFL who has produced three consecutive 100-rated passer rating seaons. “What do we have to change? What do we have to do to correct the navigation, [going] where we want to go? “You create that standard in the locker room. The guys follow and you’ve got to uphold it.”

How do you interpret what Tua says here

“ are you not tired of what has gone on the last five years “

Is he absolving himself here ?

I think he’s saying it like “are you guys not as tired as I am of the bs and lack of success “, so don’t think he’s absolving himself think he’s taking accountability

Miami heralds take on day 2:

▪ The Zach Wilson experience remained quite the rollercoaster. On one hand, he had a nice pass to Tahj Washington and a 20-yard completion to Tarik Black. But he also threw a pass that Willie Gay Jr. intercepted (and returned for a touchdown) and another that Isaiah Johnson nearly intercepted. He was sacked by Gay on another play. On Tuesday, Wilson threw two interceptions (including a pick-six to Dante Trader) and nearly had another pass returned for a touchdown (if Ethan Bonner hadn’t dropped the potential interception).

▪ Tua Tagovailoa threw his first interception of the minicamp; safety Ifeatu Melifonwu had the pick and remains a heavy favorite for a starting job. The defense, which worked on pressure packages, dominated the day. At times, quarterbacks barely had time to look downfield.

▪ Linebacker Jordyn Brooks had a nice tackle at the line of scrimmage on a pass to De’Von Achane.

▪ Second-year edge player Grayson Murphy, who has had at least three sacks over the past week, had a tackle for loss on Alexander Mattison. And edge player Cameron Goode had a sack of Quinn Ewers. Murphy missed all of last season with an injury; Goode missed much of last season after a knee injury in week 18 of the 2023 season

▪ Rookie receiver Andrew Armstrong had a 25-yard catch on a nifty throw from Ewers.

▪ A day after his pick-six, rookie fifth-round safety Trader had a sack on a day the Dolphins worked on pressure packages.

▪ UCF rookie cornerback BJ Adams had a pass breakup. He will push for a spot on the 53 during training camp.

▪ The Dolphins ended practice with a wet ball drill for the rookies. Center Aaron Brewer was at the controls of a massive hose.

▪ In 7 on 7 work, Achane ran a quick hitch into the end zone for a touchdown. Brooks trailed him the entire play and nobody was close to Achane. Later, Achane had a nice run behind the right side of the offensive line.

▪ Besides the interception and sack, Gay Jr. had good coverage on Achane on an incomplete deep throw from Tagovailoa.

▪ Cornerback Storm Duck broke up a long pass to Dee Eskridge, who had the ball in his hands before Duck knocked it away. Later, Duck broke up a Tagovailoa pass to Nick Westbrook-Ikhine.

▪ Defensive tackle Matt Dickerson beat left tackle Patrick Paul for a would-be sack. What’s more, Paul likely would have been flagged for holding if this had been a real game.

▪ Linebacker Quinton Bell had a tackle for loss on a running play. He has made several flash plays during the offseason program.

▪ Linebacker Bradley Chubb wore the orange jersey, which is bestowed on the previous day’s standout practice player.

▪ Right tackle Austin Jackson - who has been cleared after November knee surgery - didn’t practice Wednesday and participated sparingly Tuesday. The Dolphins are being cautious with him. He’s good to go for the regular season.

▪ Receiver Tyreek Hill, working his way back from two wrist procedures, was catching passes on the side and not participating in team drills. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, has said he will be ready for training camp and the regular season.

▪ Guard James Daniels, who did some individual work on Tuesday, didn’t work on the field at all on Wednesday. He’s working his way back from a Week 4 Achilles’ injury; his agency has said he’s expected to be ready for the start of the season.

▪ Linebacker Tyrel Dodson and tight end Tanner Conner nearly got into a shoving match.
