That wasn’t necessarily the case last season when he lined up at that position for the first time after spending his first four years with the Dolphins playing on the outside.
It also didn’t help that Misi battled injuries throughout the 2014 season, which slowed his progress at his new position.
That’s all in the past now, and Misi is ready to continue what he hopes will become a successful transition.
“I feel good,” Misi said on the last day of minicamp. “Last year was kind of a bust because I was hurt all the time. I feel good coming back healthy this year. Since we started, compared to last year I feel 110 percent better already. I’m just trying to make things different than what I did last year and trying to get better at things that I wasn’t as good at.
“Right now my reads are real good. I can blitz and my coverage is getting better. All around, I’ve improved a lot more in things that I did last year.”
Misi ended up starting 11 games for the Dolphins in 2014 and finishing with 66 tackles, which ranked as the third-highest total on the team. He also had a sack in the Dec. 1 victory against the New York Jets and a fumble recovery in the Oct. 19 victory against the Chicago Bears.
But Misi was inactive for five games — at three different times during the season — and his 11 games played represented his lowest total since he entered the NFL as a second-round pick in the 2010 NFL draft.
The Dolphins always have had a lot of confidence in Misi, who signed a four-year contract extension in 2013, and that certainly hasn’t changed now.
