Misi Putting In Long Hours

so the other years he didn't put in extra work . I don't like the move of Misi to MLB , he just doesn't seem suitd to that spot but I guess he could be no worse than the most overpaid linebacker in the league Dannell Ellerbee

i don;t know if he put in extra work or not in the past but i do know the responsibility at mike ramps it up to another level...responsibility wise mike is a whole different ball game

and there's no doubt he's gonna being so green at the position get caught being overagressive on some stuff...either that or he will hesitate both of which are bad news...his read and dx is gonna have to have really made major strides

Where is Zach Thomas, I feel his smarts and work ethic were the keys to his success more than his athletic ability. If Misi needs to learn how to read offenses and align a defense he should be learning it from ZT. I wonder why he isn't around like JT is.

I agree, he may not be able to teach Misi how to be as instinctive as he was, but he can sure teach him what to look for and any little advise a player of Zach's caliber can give, can only help. Kind of strange that Zach is not there, the man bleeds aqua, and would do anything to help the team.

There are many areas that Misi rates lower then Zach, but one area that Misi is better then Zach ever was, is taking on blocker. If Misi could get some time with Zach, along with how much harder it will be to block Misi, he could be a darn good M-LB.

Sheesh.... talk about jumping around for Misi.

From 4-3 DE in college to, 3-4 OLB his first couple of years in Miami, to 4-3 OLB, now 4-3 MLB....

I believe Misi can handle M-LB, he is by far our best LB against the run, is a pretty violent hitter, and moving side to side may not hinder him as much as people think, he may not be a world class athlete, but he does move very well for someone his size.

Most importantly, that middle will be much harder to run through with Misi back there waiting, he may actually help our undersized DTs against the run if he can grasp the position quickly enough....which sounds like he's putting the hours and working very hard to achieve.

point is you can't really teach guys at lb instincts...i will argue to the death that they either got it or they don't...i haven't seen anything from misi yet that made me think high end lb instinctual play admittedly that was at sam where his strengths as a player fit the mold the most to date...putting him at mike will really be a tell and it will be obvious very early...you can't hide at mike

I agree. I think we'll have a good idea, by the 2nd, and know for sure, by the 3rd, preseason games if this move will work out.

I think some are missing part of the point in Misi putting in so much extra time. It's not only for individual play but, knowing where to position the front 7 as their QB. The former Fins on Finsider explained that sometimes a player on D will be moved 6 inches, which seems like nothing, but makes a difference in making or not making plays. They both said that Misi is a very intelligent player, and thought he wi9ll do well,

I remember reading about ZT's personal film and files being the most extensive of any player in the league. He knew every team and their tendencies, every player and their tendencies, and almost the same about what they were gonna do as they did. I'm sure that helped a lot on what appeared to be instincts. He was like a computer on the field.

I am also pulling for Misi and feel he is our most well-rounded LB at the moment. However, I still have a feeling our best pure MLB on this team may be the rookie Jordan Tripp. Regardless, it's better they got Ellerbe out of there and back to a more natural position that fits his instincts and skillset. Wheelers best instincts hopefully are realized at the nearest bus stop out of south Florida.

He may not be able to commit. He has good days and bad days from what he said in an interview a few years ago.

Just caught Misi on the Finsiders, and he said he is coming in at 4:30-5:00 AM to study a learn all he can in order to be able to put the front 7 in the right positions. This may work out.

That's excellent news.

I 100% agree with this for the LB position. On the offensive side of the ball, you would ideally have an instinctual QB, but even then I would argue its not an absolute prerequisite. You could actually get away with nobody on the offensive side of the ball being overly instinctive as a player. The offense players know the playcall and their assignments, so it's as much about execution as anything else.

But LB is about nothing other than reading and reacting fast. LBs and safeties without instincts are toast and you can't learn it no matter what time you get up in the morning. You can mask it a little maybe with experience and an encylopaedic knowledge of offensive systems, but there's a reason they're called instincts.
