DIEHARD DOLPHIN
First and foremost, I LOVE MY DOLPHINS! More than anybody! And anybody who calls me a fairweather fan or any other stupid thing like that can contact me so that we can meet up somewhere and I can kick their a$$. But here's what I see:
We have one of the most innaccurate QB's to ever start for this franchise. His ability to recognize WHERE to throw the ball is the reason he's starting. His inability to deliver that pass ACCURATELY is the reason we just can't win against any kind of a quality football team. His rainbow arcs and constantly high throws were making me sick to my stomach. The pass he rainbowed into Booker was a nice throw but with the way he's been throwing them lately it could have also ben a huge pick for them. Our QB is awful and the only reason we got away with it is because New Orlean's run defense stunk up the place.
The SAINTS defensive line was pitiful against us and still, Seth McKinney was beaten on 5 plays that resulted in either sacks or pressures. Five damn plays. Against any other team those five plays become 10 and one of those plays changes the outcome of the game. This offensive line is sad and weak and chock full of mental mistakes and excuses. There is no toughness there, not physically or mentally. Just a bunch of "Why Me?" types.
The zone defenses called by the coaches allows way too many huge gaping holes in the secondary. I realize that the coaches are calling the defense based on the talent level they have to work with, but against any other team that secondary would have been torched. To say we got lucky is an understatement! With the injuries to the secondary (which worked in our favor because no SAM MADISON meant no illegal use of hands or defensive holding calls against us) we played a conservative 2 deep defense that SHOULD have allowed the Saints a bunch of big plays. But because their O-Line may actually be worse than ours the pressure got there before Brooks could deliver the ball accurately.
Still, I keep reading on this board how we're gonna be 8-4 soon and yada, yada...
Let's make something crystal clear: The New Orlean Sains was our homecoming game. And now that we've won the game and named our king and queen and enjoyed the dance it's time to return to reality.
We play the FALCONS and the PATRIOTS. We could EASILY and LIGITIMATELY be 3-6 after those two games. Why? Because we lost to the BILLS who are NOT a good football team. They represented a SOFT game in our schedule that we just couldn't win. Because we lost to the CHIEFS. They are NOT the powerhouse team we made them out to be on the FRIDAY game they are in fact a very beatable, mediocre team at best.
Now we're hitting the HARD part of our schedule, the truly tough teams. No matter how questionable Vick's play has been lately, the Falcons can flat out run the ball. The Dolphins can't stop the run this year. Just can't do it. Regardles of how banged up the Patriots defense has been and the big plays they keep giving up their offense continues to win games for them, even with the rookies on the offensive line.
Yep, don't judge the DOLPHINS by what you saw in NEW ORLEANS because that was a mirage. Don't also judge by what you saw at home against the CHIEFS cuz that was also not accurate.
Judge them by what you see against the FALCONS and PATRIOTS, 2 tough home games that will tell us all we need to know about this team. I watch the games pacing up and down like a fiend, screaming at the tv (mostly at Frerrotte) and praying loudly when we're on defense for a turnover. I bleed MIAMI DOLPHINS and love them like I love nothing else in this world.
But we have the wrong guys lined up in key positions and without the talent a coach is just a guy with an opinion. Schemes are useless if you ddon't have the talent to pull them off.
Maybe this win will give us confidence, maybe the O-Line will coalesce and give RONNIE and RICKY running room against the FALCONS and PATRIOTS like they did against the lowly SAINTS. Maybe FRERROTTE will find his touch and accuracy against these secondaries that though banged up are still FAR superior than any other team we've faced so far (Including Surtain and KNIGHT with the CHIEFS), and maybe, just maybe something clicks with our defense and the ability to pressure the QB leads to turnovers that so far this year have ben few and far between.
Maybe... I hope so.
But unfortunately, based on prior performances we HAVE to expect:
REGGIE HOWARD to be the opposition's favorite whipping boy again and again.
JASON TAYLOR'S injured foot to continually slow him down and leave him out of position on running plays.
FRERROTTE's inability to throw an accurate ball to eventually cost us the game. How many wide open receivers do you have to miss before you're officially labeled "NOT THE ANSWER" by the coaches? I'd be interested in seeing ROSENFELS in action. Only the coaches are aware of his development so of course they know best, but still, I'm intrigued.
SETH McKINNEY should be taken out back and shot. Put him out of his misery.
VERNON CAREY should be traded to SAN FRANCISCO for a case of Rice-A-Roni.
Nobody commits more mental errors than RANDY McMICHAEL during a game. He's your typical dumb jock. Rather than hit his helmet with a baseball bat every time he forgets to think out there we should let his wife do it. Payback's a beeotch.
CHRIS CHAMBERS is NOT a #1 receiver. He would be a great #2 guy, but as a number one he's not consistant enough. He slows down on go routes and drops catchable balls when we need him to just grab one. The fact that he makes 1 handed grabs is nice and all, but only if you catch the easy ones too.
RICKY, RONNIE, WELKER, ZACH, JASON, SCHULTERS, CROWDER, CARTER, etc... these guys are giving it their all. These guys deserve better than teamates like FRERROTTE, McKINNEY and HOWARD, but that's WHO WE ARE this year.
I TRULY hope we win every game this year, but being a fan should not mean that you lose your ability to think and to analyze. The next 2 games will CLEARLY spell out our season because if we can't beat a good team at home and the Patriots here in warm Miami then we're certainly not gonna beat anybody on the road and certainly not in frozen Foxboro.
We're 3-4, if we end up 5-4 then this team WILL have turned a corner and SABAN would derserve the keys to the city! But wins against the FALCONS and the PATRIOTS? Against our pathetic, cry-baby offensive line and oh my god bad secondary?
Let's keep it real. This team needs to aquire by draft or free agency a QB (I don't want Rivers, Harrison or Carr or any other free agent) 2 quality corners, a left tackle, a center (PLEASE!), a speed WR and a Free SAFETY.
It will take a couple of years to get there and by that time ZACH and JASON and SAM will be gone. So, while I HOPE for the best and root for them with all of my heart, my brain prepares itself for the worst. Especially against teams like the FALCONS and PATRIOTS.
I'm sure I'll get flamed by the RAH-RAH guys who couldn't analyze their way out of a paper bag and disagreed with by the more thoughtful members. But I guess it's just annoying reading the POLYANNA posts where people think we're going to th SUPERBOWL because we sucked less than the SAINTS. Please...
So it's my opinion that this was a misleading win and that the outcome of the next two games WILL indeed reveal the character and fate of our football team this year. THOSE outcomes matter and THEY will spell it out for us. I hope with all of my heart, soul, breath and being that we win! That we FIND A WAY TO WIN!
But, we are what we are.
GO PHINS!
