McKinnie had a down season and from what I've read he has issues with his condition/weight.

No need to facepalm a simple statement. Also, from what I recall, Ireland didn't have final say at the time. If it was solely Parcells' choice, how can Ireland be blamed for Pat White?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not being an Ireland apologist. I just think if you're going to criticize him, one needs to find a better example than Pat White. And to be clear, there are many examples.

I don't have a link right now but I read an interview that he drafted White because of his speed, so he agree with Parcells to draft him.

A team desperate for a right tackle, yeah its something I would have looked hard at. Considering Ozzie Newsome's record in this league, its hard to argue with the move they made....now isn't it Bill?

and how do you know he wasn't offered a spot with the dolphins? hard to make an arguement when you dont' have all the facts. isn't it BF?

I do know he was and IS fat, out of shape and while I don't know if he's motitavted or not, the fact he's fat and outta shape points to the fact he isn't motivated. what do you know for a fact? that we need a RT? Sure we do! would BM be the guy to help us there since he's fat, outta shape and unmotivated? comeon, you've got plenty of reasons to bash the fins, heck you find new ones every day, but this shouldn't be one of them.

Apparently this is hard to figure out. I'll try again: Ireland did *not* have final say over the matter. Parcells took responsibility for the pick (maybe to save Ireland's job, but Parcells has his head so far up his arse, I don't know if he holds the ability to have humility for another). Even if Jeff Ireland *agreed* (just like we *all* agree with our bosses, you know, when we have to...) it doesn't mean that if he had the sole choice he would have chosen Pat White. Apparently this is hard to comprehend.

And again, there are way more valid criticisms of Jeff Ireland. You know, like asking somebody if his mom is a whore...

Also, I don't have a link right now, but I read an interview where Ireland says that he wears a g-string and utilizes midgets as his personal servants...

With Miami going to more zone blocking, a 400 pound tackle would not be a good move.

No Bill, I don't know all the facts of this circumstance, and I really don't think you do either. You seem a little sensitive, I really wasn't bashing Miami at all. All I said was, to paraphrase:
Considering McKinney would seem like an obvious thing to do for a team in need of a right tackle, I also complemented Ozzie Newsome who has a long and successful career as a GM in this league behind him for taking a good hard look at McKinney.

You might not have. 564 others have. But you're using the same logic with McKinnie that others are with Johnson. People like to say "Well if he was so good then why was he available?" Sometimes this is a viable question depending on who we're talking about. With McKinnie, his fat *** needs to pass a physical before he actually can play. If he does, isn't guaranteed to start.

I view McKinnie as I do the Johnson signing. Pick a guy up who's been cast aside, see if he can do anything for you, and either reap the benefits or kick his *** to the curb.

Can you blame people though? If you haven't noticed we haven't been better than very many teams over the course of the last 10 years... I want to say that we've been better than the Cardinals and Bengals but I think the Bengals have actually made the playoffs more and the Cardinals went to the damn super bowl once... ****.

Not including the SB or playoffs (since there haven't been many appearances there), the Dolphins are 86-90 starting from the year 2000 to the present. Now the 1-15 and 4-12 records make a dent in that lower winning percentage without a doubt. 5 losing season out of 11 = mediocre. I've never argued that the Dolphins have been average for a decade.

A man that was recently 400 pounds can’t exactly slip under the radar.
Baltimore’s signing of former Viking Bryant McKinnie got plenty of attention when it happened a few weeks back, but we didn’t know McKinnie’s impact until Sunday. The man looked ready to go.
McKinnie had a terrific game run-blocking. With Michael Oher on the right side where he is more comfortable, Baltimore’s rushing attack looked like it did in 2009. They piled up 170 yards on Pittsburgh.
“McKinnie slapped around Pittsburgh All-World outside linebacker James Harrision, at times knocking him silly with one big paw,” Mike Preston of the Baltimore Sun wrote.
(That sound you hear is Vikings fans falling out of their chairs.)
Joe Flacco got great protection throughout the game. It appears the Ravens got a motivated McKinnie.
“[Minnesota] tried to make it seem like I lost it. Well, I guess I found it in Baltimore. It’s good motivation,” McKinnie said after the game.
Decent starting left tackles are not easy to find. McKinnie only has to be average on the left side to greatly help Baltimore’s line. He frees Oher up to vastly upgrade the right side, where Oher is more comfortable.
It was only one game, but the Ravens must feel like they found a rather large diamond in the free agency rough.
