As of this moment bringing in L.J. Shelton, Daunte Culpepper, Mike Mularkey( as O.C.) and drafting Jason Allen all look like poor choices in that none of these people are helping us win games this year. To be honest it's quite the opposite and there is massive dollars tied up in these individuals. As a gameday coach I'm not in love with how conservative he is running the teams offense or how unprepared the team looks coming right out of the gate in every game. The penalties, the missed tackles and blocks, the drops, the zero interceptions, the dink and dunk stuff etc. are all frustrating as hell and not only are we losing games but the games aren't fun to watch. As a GM he is about a C- or D+ imo. We have too good a team to be 1-5 and I'm blaming coaching for a large part of this seasons failure. It needs to get better fast because we as fans deserve a far better product than the one on the field this year. I still believe in Saban but I'm not as in love with the hire as I was initially. Do you guys still believe in Saban and do you think he'll turn it around? If so, how long do we have to wait. This is so bad.

DC isn't a mistake. Mularkey is calling plays that aren't being executed and the last 2 games have been fine by me. Allen? Well, it was world wide obvious news that when he missed the pre camp 10 days that he's be far behind. So it should not be a news flash that he, well, behind. He played a little last week and may play more this week. Why not give the rookie who missed some camp more than 5 lousy games before crucifying him and let DC heal before repeating the same.

It really is unfortunate that all those decissions havent worked out yet. I still think Saban is a good coach and he knows what hes doing. Im not giving up on him and in my opinion he will have this team back on track in a few years.

To me the most dissappointing thing right now is how sloppy our team looks week to week. To me that falls on the coaches shoulders.

LJ Shelton - Jesus people, we gave the guy a 3.5 million dollar signing bonus. That is peanuts for a LT or for a guard for that matter. LJ has shown he is at a minimum functional. Why does everyone think this is such a bad move?
We signed Reggie Howard for 4.5 million signing bonus. LJ is better than Reggie Howard.

Daunte Culpepper - Best QB we have had since Marino. His leg is messed up. If it wasn't we would have never gotten him. The O-line on this team stinks it would be difficult for any QB to perform. I think acquiring DC is a great move.

Jason Allen - He is a rookie. Have patience. Ever heard of Troy Polamalu or Vernon Carey. Polamalu didn't play his rookie year. Vernon Carey didn't play his rookie year and is now our best linemen. Chill out on this guy.

Throwing the ball over 40 times per game is conservative? Damn, I wanna come and watch your team!!!

Daunte was a mistake, he ruined our season! I watched Brees beat up Philly last week and literally got sick to my stomach over Saban passing on him.

I am not happy with Sabans coaching he may have a big mouth screaming at players and all but he's way to passive in dealing with the problems. I see other coaches benching players like Plaxico Burress for dropping passes and having bad days and I see them come back out the next week and play like they've never played before.

I see Saban screaming at players then sending them right back out there to do the same crap. Saban's methods do not work. Every week he goes off about how we need a sense of urgency and we need better execution and yet every week we come out looking like were just there to collect a paycheck. These guys dont care about winning. Sabans methods just do not work and it's disappointing.

This team lacks discipline and the blame for that falls squarely on lack of proper coaching.

Ok!!

Look guys!!, I, like most of you, got cutup in the hype of this jogernut team that Saban builded. Now we are paying that high spectation that we put to ourself. Not giving an excuse that we should be a 1-5 team, but we are now in the groing pain of trying to do something. Just wait, who long?, less than a year, maybe a month. GO DOLPHINS!! :dolphins:

No offense but you need a spell checker.

How soon we forget, we were 4-12 just a couple of seasons ago. This when Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas, Patrick Surtain, Sam Madison etc. were all 2 years younger. How many impact players under 28 do we have left from the Wannstedt/Spielman era? How many starters do we have from that same era that are 28 or younger? This franchise was on the way down when Saban inherited it; it's going to take a few years to fix.

Certainly Saban isn't without mistakes. I think replacing 3/4 of your secondary in a complicated defense like he runs can really hurt especially when the 1/4 that did come back is always hurt. The offensive line moves you can say are his fault but it's pretty evident that many of the sacks fell on Culpepper and the line would probably not be this bad had it not been for a number of injuries (McKinney, Toledo, Berger, etc.).

I am not one who likes giving up picks for players no matter the calibre. Your team gets old really fast when you do that which is the situation we're in now thanks to Wannstedt/Spielman. However, despite the personnel moves that did not pan out and obviously placed false hopes on this season I still think Saban is one heck of a coach. He proved it last year. It didn't help that not only did we make a number of personnel changes but we lost both coordinators when the team was finally "getting it". There were just too many factors acting against this team for this team to be successful from the start, IMO. Right now all I'm looking for is progress and I think we're getting closer with Harrington at QB. However, there are some things that just won't change and that's the dropped balls. I've seen it far too long with this receiving corp and we can all hope these guys get it corrected but it just won't happen. If it hasn't happened yet with Chambers, Booker and McMichael it's not going to happen. If your most sure handed receiver is Wes Welker (and I love the kid) then you have a problem.

I still trust in Saban and I think learning to manage the team and make personnel decisions is just as much a "process" for him as it is for him to coach the players and they learn his system and get better and go through their "process". I'm confident he'll turn it around.

One of the moderators posted that we should all wait patiently until the end of 2008. And no, I am not being sarcastic. He said we should wait until 2008, and then he gave us the old generic "noticeable improvment" standard.

I mean right now, if we scored a TD in the first quarter, that would be a noticeable improvement. This is how bad this team is.

So I suggest to fans like you (and me) that we have our standards WAYYYY too high. We should not trust our eyes or use the record when evaluating Saban-oh no, that would be "trigger happy" and harsh. We should use a calendar and refer to things like "noteworthy incremental improvements".....

It has been confirmed Polamalu played his first year, I think he even started games. It has also been confirmed, by a Steelers fan on this board, that he stunk the place up and everyone was wondering why the Steelers wasted a 16th overall pick for him.

Good point. There have been plenty of examples of guys that played sparingly there rookie years and went on to be good players.

It is frustrating that we are not seeing immediate dividends, but it is too early to label Jason Allen a mistake.
