I believe Scott Linehan is a bright, capable man who has certainly had some success in the NFL; otherwise, he wouldn't have been hired by Saban and several teams would not be pursuing him for a head coach position.

I still wonder though, just how valuable he really is and what would become of the Dolphins if he left this year. Was it the immense depth of offensive talent at Minnesota or Linehan's expert coaching that caused them to be successful?
Maybe a combination of both.

Interestingly, the Dolphins offense, even with Gus Frerrote who is well versed in Linehan's system, was one of the worst in the NFL through the Cleveland game. We committed numerous penalities and Linehan made several questionable calls that all seemed to go away after the Cleveland game. Perhaps it was Saban's intervention that changed everything.

Maybe Saban and Linehan don't click very well, which is what led to Linehan's name being circulated as a head coach. After all, he can't leave to take an offensive head coaching position. I just don't buy the fact that Linehan came down to the sidelines and started calling better and more running plays after the Cleveland game due to his own desire. I think Saban made that happen.

The point being is that Saban and Linehan did find a way to work together and I'm sure will be fine next season if Linehan stays. On the other hand, if Linehan wants out and is hired away, I'm not sure that's all bad. I think Saban wants more balance and likes the Ricky and Ronnie backfield. We've had a lot of change already, but I think is already preparing for the possibility of Linehan leaving.

things really did pick up after that Buffalo comeback. For as awful as we were in the Cleveland game, you gotta give Linehan some of the credit for pulling the team together. I think it's a safe bet that, if we make the playoffs next year, then Linehan will get some HC job offers.

Maybe, however I believe Minnesota's slow start had alot to do with Linehan leaving.

It takes longer than a year to install a new offense.

Doesnt that depend on the system and on the players making the adjustment?

I think it's often a good year too. I hate to bring up a Pats example like everyone else does, but I remember at the beginning of the second or 3rd year Weis had with teh Pats. He said "They actually really get it now." when asked about the recent improvement in offense. I think there's a lot to learn, and when everyone on teh field has to think, it destroys timing a bit when the D is reacting rather than thinking. Once a year or so goes by, most of the players are reacting (second nature to them) and their true skills show.

Nice Post, I like Linehan, I think if they continue where they left off towards the end of the season it would be great. It's been a while since a Dolphin team has been able to score easily even without a good QB. I really like how the system opened up the running lanes even with a poor O-line. If we improve oir O-line I think it would be much better.

It depends on what offense. Mike Martz offense? Sure...

Linehan's though is very simple. Possible the simplest in the league. It just relies on maximizing your most talented players. It's not like the WCO where usually you can only get to very good or very bad, not unstoppable or atrocious like Linehan's.
