Two of them tonight:

First, Colorado trades OF Eric Byrnes to Baltimore for OF Larry Bigbie. Stupid move for 'Rado. Byrnes is a player. Bigbie is not. What's the infatuation with this guy?

Second, pending approval, the Padres traded Phil Nevin (deja vu all over again!) to Texas for Chan Ho Park. I thought the Friars were lucky they didn't acquire Ponson. Now they're stupid for going after Park, one of the worst pitchers in baseball.

Actually, Texas is on his list of teams he'd be willing to be traded to, so he is indeed a Ranger.

That's a good trade for Baltimore. As much as I hate Byrnes (acted like a little b*tch in the 2003 ALDS) he's definitely got some talent. However, it's just the rich getting richer (their lineup) and they continue to completely ignore the rotation.

And believe it or not, I do like this trade for San Diego. Park has been a disaster for the Rangers ever since they brought him in. But you can't forget he's pitching in Arlington, that place is a bandbox. He's now moving to Petco, a VERY pitcher friendly ballpark, MUCH like Dodger Stadium. Maybe, just maybe, he'll perform how he did when Dodger Stadium was his home his last year in LA. And if not, well what did they lose? A declining Phil Nevin who wasn't going to be playing anyway.

Good move for Texas. They don't need another hitter but Park is awful. They just upgraded talent.

Byrnes for Bigbie.....Orioles upgraded talent but they won't win this thing trying to win 10-9. This might be a move to sweeten the pot to get AJ. Maybe Byrnes is now shipped to Florida? JUST A THOUGHT.

Eh, not a bad idea, but we don't need outfielders. A.J.'s not going anywhere. We're making our move now...7 of 9 and 3 in a row, got the Nats in town and the bats getting hot. Watch out for the Fish...

Whether you make a trade is a whole different argument. But you could use Byrnes cause Juan Pierre isn't getting any younger and his numbers decline a bit each season.

Park makes $15 million and gives up an opposing batting average of .299. I don't care what park you're in, that's not good. And he doesn't have Texas' offense backing him up anymore.

And he has a bad injury history.

What do they have to lose? Why not try it? Nevin is clearly on the decline. Park's last year in LA, his home and away splits were absolutely ridiculous. He was great at home, and AWFUL on the road (Texas Rangers awful). I'd say the park he's pitching in has ALOT to do with his success.

I would rather just have Nevin. Period.

He is the better player. I know SD wants a pitcher, but I wouldn't do a bad trade to get a pitcher. ESpecially an average to bad pitcher like Park.

Well, seeing how he agrees with you, I wouldn't expect much of a response.

First place, among other things. This team is scuffling big time. Chan Ho Park is not going to change anything.

Is Ramon Hernandez undergoing surgery?

Either way, they need Eaton back badly. Still, Peavy and Eaton are their only legit starters. Great pen, what with Otsuka, Linebrink, Hoffman, et al, but the lineup now lacks punch. The only power hitters are Klesko and Giles. Randa and Loretta are the only situational hitters. Roberts, Greene, and whoever's going to be catching now are average at best hitting.

I told a friend of mine the other day that Arizona would win the NL West; he laughed at me. I believe it now more than ever, since at least Arizona doesn't have Chan Ho "Petco" Park pitching every 5th day. San Diego is 51-51. Arizona is 50-55, 2.5 GB. Whoever wins this division will be sub-.500 and lose in the first round, but I think Arizona is going to make history in the really-worst-to-first category.

How bad is the NL West? At 36-66, Colorado is 15 games out of first. Milwaukee, in the NL Central, is 50-54 and 15.5 out of first. New York, in the East, is 52-51 and in last place, 7 games out. They really should just have 2 Wild Cards in the playoffs this year, because no team in the NL West right now is deserving.

You are so petty its laughable.

He's also usually right...not on this one, though. Sorry, FiPL.

I wouldn't be shocked if SF some 7 or 8 games back make a late run at this also. They have a history of getting hot come Aug and Sep. Schmidt is getting back to being Schmidt! They are a team that could make a run. And if Bonds ever came back....watch out. SD is handing this thing away.

Please, Nevin isn't going to be the difference in that lineup sinking or swimming.

You're right they don't, they have Russ Ortiz in their rotation.

Randa is an upgrade over Burroughs who has been awful all year. And Giles, Klesko and Hernandez (where did you hear he needs surgery?) provide a formidable middle of the lineup. Granted, they won't make any noise in the playoffs as you already mentioned, but they are the best team in a terrible NL West.

Bonds isn't coming back this year. After Schmidt, you have Rueter (getting shelled, in and out of the rotation), Kevin Correia, Brad Hennessey, Noah Lowry, and Brett Tomko. Their bullpen is okay, nothing special, and Tyler Walker is not a playoff closer.

But where's the punch in this lineup? You have Alou, Feliz, and very little else...Marquis Grissom? Michael Tucker? Ray Durham? Omar Vizquel? Mike Matheny? This is an amazing team in 1998. Unfortunately, it's 2005.

LA stinks. Colorado's worse. Arizona will back into this division lead, I think. San Diego is the best team there if they can figure out how to win again.
