MMQB Mailbag: Dolphins Coaching Search

The Dolphins haven't had much luck in the traditional coaching searches, the retreads, hot college names and the hot coordinators have all failed. It's good to look elsewhere, you never know what you might find

An NFL head coach is about the staff he can build. While Campbell as a coach might not have a huge network, he has a lot of connections with some powerful voices. I love how Campbell played and loved his presser. It would be great to see the team be respectable and him maybe get a shot. Would be nice to have a home grown coach.

The thing is, Miami really has tried EVERY type of hire people commonly ask for:
- Proven Established Pro Coach: Jimmy Johnson
- Proven Established College Coach: Nick Saban
- Successful Coordinator: Cam Cameron, Joe Philbin
- Average Working Joe Lunch Bucket: Tony Sparano
- Head Coach Retread: Dave Wandstedt

And we have missed EVERY TIME. It's frustratingly ponderous and it seems the only hope is that purely by numbers we have to find somebody decent at some point.

if we do solid from here on in... i hope that Campbell has a chance for the job... but I REALLY hope that we dont just jump on him because of familiarity and he is already known and loyal with us.

there are tons of names already out there, and may be some great options to look at. we need to really study, and look into everything, to see what is best for Miami as a whole. lots of interviews, lots of research!!!

............. as well as try keep Campbell on staff even if not head coach

Cambell is basically being sacrificed here, which sucks. He may not get the team a winning record from all the damage Joe did to this squad and that means he's gone after the season, instead of putting the d/o coordinator out there that may not be here next year anyhow. We could have groomed Cambell into our next coach. This is exactly what happened with Jason Garrett...

Our off-seasons have been more enjoyable than the seasons.

If Tannenbaum wants to think outside the box it starts with him gutting the front office at the end of the season. Then his next step will be to hire a top notch candidate to become our GM is a true GM having all authority over personnel and coaches. Let the new GM structure all coaching staff hires so that everyone is on the same page. I don't care if we have to blow the organization up or just change a few players the main goal is to get it right this time and stop farting around by playing leap frog. Then Tannenbaum needs to get out of the way and stop putting his hands in the personnel decisions.

Rotoworld is reporting that we have spoken with ex Atlanta Head Coach Mike Smith, Jim Schwartz and ex Tampa Bay Head Coach Greg Schiano re Defense. Schiano was among the worst coaches I can recall.
