alright boys, here it is, my last mock before the action begins on saturday.

1. Jake Long T Michigan
he's already signed so i think its a safe pick, and i think he's the right pick.

2a. Antoine Cason CB Arizona
i know a lot of people want to go with a pass rusher here, but i think Cason is the right pick for our teams needs, we need help in our secondary and Cason is the best guy for that, he's also solid in run support which is something we've missed from our corners.

2b. Philip Wheeler LB Georgia Tech
performed solid at the combine and even better at his pro day, gives us a young play maker in the linebacking corps, should give us some nice youth in the LB corps with Crowder.

3. Josh Barrett SS ASU
i dont know how we can pass on him, he's a physical freak at 6'1'' 223 and runs a 4.35 40, that's pretty impressive, he's also a solid tackler and really elevates the play of our secondary, gives us some nice influx of young talent with Barrett, Jason Allen and Cason, something our secondary needs desperately.

4. Mike McGlynn G Pittsburgh
let's fill out the rest of our starting line now before its too late. he's not overly athletic, but can play both Guard and Tackle, which on our line is big because we have depth issues.

5. no pick

6a. Gary Guyton LB Georgia Tech
a RIDICULOUS physical specimen. 6'1'' 245, 4.47 40, 22 reps and a 40 inch vertical. Worst case scenario he becomes a special teams standout, best case scenario he can start at LB, with his speed its like having another DB on the field.

6b. Gary Barnidge TE Louisville
a solid TE prospect in round 6, put up solid numbers at Louisville, 53 catches for 655 and 7 scores. cant be any worse than David Martin.

7a. Lionel Dotson DT Arizona
has battled injuries, but still notched 6.5 sacks in 07, pretty impressive coming from the inside of the line. at 6'3'' 296 he'd play end in our scheme, and likely would provide solid depth, and if he stays healthy could push for playing time.

7b. Mario Urrutia WR Louisville
has size at 6'5'' 232 and isnt overly slow at 4.53, very productive in 06 with almost 1000 yards. had some character concerns notching a slew of unsportsmanlike penalties, but you'd have to think with Parcells watching he'd cut the crap. makes a solid possesion reciever.

so there ya go, the last one for a while from me, I know some people desperately want a QB, but I think we need to be sure that John Beck isnt our guy before we burn a pick on another signal caller. I also know that some people want to go offense heavy, but i chose to go defense heavy, because I feel that we need to add youth on D and we accomplish that with Cason, Wheeler, Barrett, Guyton and Dotson. I also know a lot of people wanted a premier pass rusher, but it think that by making the additions to our defense we do in this draft and keeping the talented pass rushers we have in Taylor and Porter, we should be ok for the time being (ROME WASNT BUILT IN A DAY!). We need to take it one year at a time, and not look for immediate success, but just make sure we add pieces each year and improve the overall quality of the team instead of trying to improve the quality at one position.

let's have the comments.

Not bad. Just a few slight changes though.

2a. DE/LB Quentin Groves, Auburn
2b. CB Patrick Lee, Auburn
3. LB Taveras Gooden, Miami

Guyton wont be there in the sixth. alot of teams have rated in the 3-5 range plus he doesnt fit our defense overly well. He isnt a stack and shed type of guy. The rest I like although i dont think cason is going to be there. Wheeler is a good pick but it could be alittle high for him.

I especially like the Phillip Wheeler pick as I think he is going to make an excellent pro. I have seen some mocks having Guyton going ahead of Wheeler and it makes me scratch my head. Wheeler made more big plays for GT than guyton, especially against the Hurricanes which is my favorite college team.

Was painful watching Wheeler blow up plays time and time again against the Canes over the last 2 years. He is also an excellent blitzer and has great instincts.

Just read a little scouting report on NFL.com
Josh Barrett...says he looks like Tarzan but plays like Jane

will disappear for long stretches on the field which was the main reason for a 3 game suspension his senior year.

Had so many injuries you wonder if Alan Alda and the Mash unit will be needed on the sideline(not my words-this is from NFL.com)

It is humorous that some so called experts compare him to Laron Landry. While impressive athletically, he lacks the power, football intelligence, consistancy and the ability to change the tide of the game the way Landry does.

His athletic abilities do not transfer to the football field.

Averaged only 3.7 tackles per game in college.

Sorry but to many questions regarding this guys heart and desire
and to me heart and desire are more important than having a superior athlete that just doesn't give a damn

i think campell or grove has to be the 2a pick if there, if both not i like flowers more than cason there, but realy any mock that has us tkaing a TE and no qbs is great with me. although i would like to take a good te mabey a lil earlier, TE's are so key to a young qbs passing attack.
