There's a new rumor out that Jacksonville will make a play at JT with their 2nd and 4th (see http://www.dolphinsnation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=213955.) I decided, since i'm bored, to work out a mock assuming this trade happens (which at this point its obviously still just a rumor) but anyway just for fun, here goes:
1- Chris Long, DE
32- Gosder Cherilus/Anthony Collins OT
57(SD)- Joe Flacco, QB
58 (Jax)- Terrell Thomas/Terrence Wheatley, CB
64- Dustin Keller, TE
96- Drew Radovich/Eric Young OG or Beau Bell MLB
121 (Jax)- Best Safety or WR available

Long is the obvious pick if we trade JT. We absolutely need a solid LT though, so we grab the best available at 32. wishful thinking that flacco will fall to 57, but perhaps his pre-draft hype is making him seem better than he'll get drafted cough-brady quinn-cough-- also i'm not so sure i really want to draft a qb on the first day. if we opted to go for someone like flynn in the 6th, i would pick up either a S or WR there and the opposite one at pick 121. Definitely think we need to draft a CB to play opposite Will Allen, and bottom of the 2nd seems the best place to do it (though if one of the elite ones dropped to 32 i'd be hard pressed not to take one there and hope a decent OT fell to 57 or 58)

thoughts? :dolphins:

also, after rethinking the QB situation. I would be happy to grab josh johnson with that 121 pick if he's there and use 57 on a WR or OG

Joe Flacco will not be there at #57. If we are going after Flacco, we need to either trade UP into the mid 1st round and grab him...or take him at #32, if we are lucky. Safest pick should be Matt Ryan at #1 to ensure we get our QB of the future.

A couple of notes I'd like to make, and this is my personal opinion -

Josh Johnson doesn't seem like the type of quarterback for this system.

If we grab Chris Long, I'd expect us to go after Branden Albert with our #32, or possibly Cherilus, as you have picked.

@ 64 I like the selection of tight end, but Dustin Keller is not a Parcells kind of guy. He is a very good receiving right end, but I'd look for a guy like Tennessee's Brad Cottam. He's a former OT, and at 6'8 270 lbs, he's got some serious size. He's got relatively soft hands, but is a slight project. He's an incredible athlete, turning in some serious numbers at the combine ( 40 yard dash of 4.63, 24 bench reps, etc )

He performs on and off the field. He has some injury concerns ( He had an injured wrist last year, and he strained his hamstring at the combine running his second 40 ) but he's been healthy for the most part. He's a serious contender for my 3rd round pick.

If we don't grab Braden Albert, or plan on moving him to tackle, I'd love the Eric Young pick in the 4th. Solid grab there.

I feel in such a deep WR draft, we'd have to use one of the second rounders on a guy like Andre Caldwell. close to 6'1, strong, speedy as hell, nice ability after the play.. He'd be an instant slot receiver, and could help Ted Ginn at the return game.

New rumour doesnt trump old rumour of Vikings 2nd and 3rd rounder. Just want to make that clear. I would rather trade my guy out of conferance too.

That said, Flacco wont make it past 40 IMO. He is rising up charts, mainly because of BP, but others take notice and duly note. We pass on him at 32, he will surely get snagged before 57. Hell, St Louis might be all over that.

Brandon Albert will be gone before 32. We will probably end up with Fabini as insurance at RT should we lose out getting a LT type.

There is no doubt, and I mean absolutely no doubt in my mind whatsoever that the hugest need that this management team is looking at is OL. If JT is traded, we get C Long, but if not, we may be getting J Long.

forget about CB and WR in first two rounds. A guy like Jordy Nelson from Nebraska would be great at top of rd. 4. The first two rounds will be about trading down(hopefully) and getting OL and Flacco as it stands to me right now. Billy will worry about everything else later. Obviously, the OL is huge need right now.

Dustin Keller could be a first round pick. Im not a huge fan of this draft, sorry. Im also not a huge fan of trading JT in conference. Send him to Minny.

Im not a fan of Keller in the first, whatsoever. Let some silly team buy into the hype of receiving tight ends who can't block for anything.. it doesn't work.

We will have a lot of LT's available at 32, unless there is an absolute frenzy in the bottom of the first, and teams ignore their other needs. I really like Collins and Baker as LT

Im not saying I would take him there, just that he will go in the first, POTENTIALLY, and at the latest in the 2nd.

dude waht are you talking about flacco is mid second not third and would be a total reach at #32. ryan would be a terrible pick at #1

jordy nelson is from Kstate not Nebraska.

But, yea, as you can see from below, im a Nelson fan. I'd also like Burton from kentucky.

Me thinks Nelson is too slow to play in the NFL

I just dont see the need for a QB like Flacco in the second. As of right now we have 7 OL under contract. We have to draft at least two or three in order to just have enough bodies in camp much less have some sort of competion.

IF we trade JT I could see the Fins going OT with 2a, OG with 2b and CB with 2c.
