Hey Mods,

A complaint r/e the "automatic marging of thread topics".

We all love it here and it is a great place to talk about our Fins, but this merging of topics makes the site look stale and static.

What happens everytime the Mod sees 2 threads that are relevant to each other, is they automatically "merge" the 2. For those of us who took the time to create the second thread, this is quite frustrating.

Why???? Because if you are interested in seeing the latest news or updates on a topic, then you have to go to the merged thread and go through ALL the pages looking for the latest news on the topic. In other words, when there is a huge update in a situation, the update thread is thrown in with the old thread and noone can see that there is recent news!

Take yesterday for example: There was the old thread (for a few days now) about the NFL players missing on the boat. Great. Yesterday midday there was hot breaking news that the boat had been found, one player clinging to life, etc. Real hot breaking news that we all hoped to see. I created the thread and threw the news out there for all to see. Hey, a break in the case!!!! Right?

What happened? The Mod saw the thread, said "hey, this is about the missng boat" and dumped my thread into the existing thread that was labelled something like "NFL Players missing in boat".

So.......if you log on to Finheaven, scroll through the threads looking for latest news, you will see the same old stale thread and not have a clue that there was a HUGE development.

Imagine the "Coles" thread that is presently merged. If he was signed today and the breaking news hit the wires and someone created a thread saying "Cols Signed with Dolphins!", then.....using the same logic.....the Mod would pick up the thread and dump it into an old thread with a stale title looking something like: "the oficial Coles merged thread", and 7 pages of old posts. Ho hum, yawn, boring!!!

Hey Mods, take a step back here and look at what you have been doing.

Stop with the automatic merging and think twice before attempting to merge. 9 times out of ten, if our members wanted our "Created Threads" to be part of somebody else's thread, we would have not created our thread in the first place.

If the 2 threads have exactly the same news, then merge.

Otherwise, leave them alone.

If you would just look for the appropriate thread to join a discussion I don't see a problem.

For instance the board would be cluttered with 15 separate threads that the phins signed Jake Grove. All from different sources but the same news these need to be merged together.

Exactly. We're not going to clutter up the main forum with 15 different threads about a player that doesn't even play or may never even play for the Miami Dolphins. If you went through that Lav Coles thread, you would see that there were even more than 15 threads started about who he is or isn't visiting. We don't need 15 different threads for that. Hence, the official Lav Coles thread. If he signs, like Jake Groves did last night, then we'll close that thread and you guys can start as many topics about him as you like. Just like there are plenty of new Jake Groves threads in the main forum right now. That boat thread has nothing to do with the Miami Dolphins but we left one in the main because it's big NFL news. Hopefully they get found and if they do, start a new thread about it if you want. Otherwise it's just a continuing discussion of a previous thread.

d-day and Frenzy pretty much hit it on the head.

We merge the threads because we don't want 1000 of the same thread on the board.
