The Dolphins played a poor game tonight. So bad that I'm not going to even bother watching it tomorrow on NFL Network.

But we can't get too down on ourselves. We have to keep our head up because we have to remember one thing......this is the worst of it.

This is as bad as it's going to get, Dolphin fans. This year, we're going to see the absolute worst in our team. We bottomed out under Wanny/Spielman. And that's where Nick Saban found us: At the bottom.

Coach Saban inherited a team with an aging defense and a very young, under-coached offense. A team with limited draft picks an no future at QB. He implemented a completely new defensive system, as well as a completely new offensive system. Not only is the system totally new, but the overall team philosophy is new. We're no longer a no frills, run the ball, play defense conservative team with a country club training regimin. We're now an aggressive, imaginative, correct-on-the-fly unit who gets put thru the ringer in practice.

With so much change and not enough adequate personnel, it's going to take time. Remember, we were about as bad as it gets last year. You can't fix it all in one summer. You can't fix it all in one year. And there will be plenty of bumps in the road. What you hope for is overall improvement early on, then a strong, encouraging finish down the stretch.

Bill Belichick went 5-11 his first year in New England as he got rid of the veteran fat and implemented his systems and philosophies. This will be Nick Saban's 5-11 season, so to speak. It's going to get better.

Next year everyone will have a whole year of under their belt. The systems won't be new. Training camp won't be as hard. And team personnel will be improved. Most importantly, the returing veterans will have been coached for a year by Nick Saban and this great staff.

So remember Dolfans, it's always darkest before dawn. And right now it's just about midnight. So keep your heads up. The best is yet to come.

gee thanks muck i was looking forward to this year, but now i'll have to watch the heat

i appreciate your attempt to be positive, but i can't help but thinking Saban is thinking to himself right now "What the hell did i get myself into?"

He knew exactly what he was getting into... This is such a true post. Give the man some time. Give the team some time. I will be like I was last year... Watching away games on tv, and watching home games from my seat. I saw a lot we have to work on, but we also had some positives... We have started the process that we need to... No expectations, just excitement to support my team.

Naaahhh, Saban is saying to himself - "Where's Wright - I wanna make SOMEONE cry !"

HA!

This isn't his first attempt at rebuilding a team, he's done it everywhere his career has taken him. With Cleveland, he turned a dreadful defense into one of the best in the NFL. He turned around programs at Michigan State and LSU.

The man has a track record, and a successful one to boot.

Hey...Take it from a guy who lives in Cincinnati....This is nothing compared to what Bengal Fan went through for over a decade...And none of my friends who are Bengal Fans have ever jumped ship...We will be back but it won't happen overnight.

It's not really an attempt to be positive. It's what I've believed since the day Nick Saban took over.

I have very few illusions about what this season will hold. All I hope to see is improvement in certain areas each week/month.

Finally, I think Saban knows exactly what he got himself into. We were 4-12 last year. Our offensive line was about as bad as any in the last 10 years. We had nothing at QB. Our star RB retired. We had devestating injuries on the DL. The coaching staff was a toxic mess. The head coach was fired midseason. The general manager was woefully inept. The organization as a whole was WAY off track.

I think Saban had very few illusions of what this turnaround would require. And I think it was a big reason why he demanded full control.

We're just getting a lot of our mistakes out of our system so we won't do the same thing in the regular season.....wait until Ronny starts running the ball...wait until we get Ricky back....yes we are going to have to take our lumps but like Muck said it is always darkest before the dawn....have faith!!! :)

I think we should, for at least this season, stay with the run-first philosophy until we can find a Quarterback who can make plays. At the very lease it will
cut down on the turnovers an give the defense a chance to win some games.

But when you have Chambers, Booker, Boston and McMichael....along with Ronnie Brown's prowess out of the backfield, you have to go to them.

Obviously, Linehan would like to run first and do it well to setup play action. But I think this team will go with what works. And that's probably going to be the passing game.
