Moment of Clarity in the Chaos

i bet if Fiedler was on the roster, he would beat out these guys for the starting job. And every fin fan out there would cry about it. And when Fiedler threw his first INT, they would scream for his head. Then Gus would come in, and proceed to play worse than Fiedler, but the fans wouldn't care, because as long as he's NOT fiedler, it doesn't matter.

but yeah, Fiedler, even though not much of an upgrade, i think would be better than these guys. We SHOULD have kept fiedler, and drafted a QB of the future to groom. that way this year wouldn't be a total waste.

Lets face it, it is a rebuilding year any way you slice it. but we'll still be a year behind, because we don't have a franchise QB to groom yet. So when we draft one next year, we'll still have growing pains next year too. in essence we could have saved a year if we would have drafted a QB this year.

I partially agree.

I agree that we still lack a young QB to groom. Saban knows this, as Alex Smith was the guy he really wanted. If Matt Leinert had come out like he should have, we'd have our franchise QB. Granted, this will be a moot point if we end up with a young veteran star next year. But assuming we address the position thru the draft, we'll be set back a year in that regard.

But I disagree on Fiedler. I think five years was enough to see that he lacked the arm strength and accuracy to succeed in this offense. That too often he failed to see the open man. Just as importantly, he only made it thru one season unscathed. Plus, the offense would still be new to him. When it comes down to it, I'd rather have Frerotte. He knows the offense and he's got the gun.

I think it was best for both parties to just split.

Finally, a pleading note to the masses. Please do not turn this into a Fiedler bashing/supporting thread. If you're going to talk about Fiedler, keep it civil and related to this topic.

But when you have Chambers, Booker, Boston and McMichael....along with Ronnie Brown's prowess out of the backfield, you have to go to them.

Obviously, Linehan would like to run first and do it well to setup play action. But I think this team will go with what works. And that's probably going to be the passing game.
I agree with you but none of this work's until our O-line start's showing some more.I believe next saturday's game will give all of us a more Real look at what saban has in mind for this year

Oh sure. If the OL ain't cutting it, NOTHING works.

But to this point, we've protected the QB pretty well. That said, I haven't seen tonight's game.

i see your point. just to clarify though, i wasn't saying fiedler was the answer. I just think that he have more success right now than Frerotte. Lets face it, Fiedler was no ace when it came to hitting your man. But at this point, i think Jay is less hit-or-miss than both our QBs are now.

At any rate i think we can agree on the fact that NONE of these guys is the answer. here's to getting a franchise QB next year!

With the exception of a couple missed assignments and a fumble by McKinney that's probably going to be tagged onto Frerotte, the OL pas protected really well tonight. Especially our new LT, Carey. The run blocking left a lot to be desired, but that's expected when you play against a 3-4 with no gameplan and no blocking schemes to counter it.

there were two sacks (one that resulted in the fumble for TD) that were based purely on the OL crumbling.

and one was McMike not blocking his guy right?
