Wasn't there a quote from Montana something to the effect of if they had switched teams Marino would have even more Super Bowls than he did? I thought I remembered something like that but can't find it anywhere, thanks. Maybe I'm hallucinating.

There was a bill walsh quote as follows:

"Montana was a product of the system, marino was the system"

I came here to say this. It's a great line. Walsh also said something like "Montana now is the greatest QB of all time" after the 9ers beat the Dolphins in the SB. It was thought he said that because they beat the Marino lead team. It's a more subtle/less quotable point, but consider that win was Montana's only 2nd SB, and only his 6th season, but he beat the unstoppable force that was Dan Marino and the Miami offense which gave the SF team the credit for it.

Yes it is true. I was looking for it to prove it to a friend who is a 9er fan. I forgot who interviewed him...

which is complete BS. That is walsh trying to give himself all the credit. Notice how he didn't win before Montana became the regular starter and notice how he didn't win when Montana had injury issues late in Walsh's career.

Dan was an all time great, it's not an insult to be behind Montana(and it's really close). I do think Dan wins SBs if he had better talent around him but Joe was the best.

Walsh was one of the most modest coaches ever. If you think he tried to give himself credit for making Montana, you are dead wrong. Read his book.

if he said that quote then he was trying to take credit. That is an asinine quote.

I agree that the timing "greatest QB" statement doesn't seem right. I can see Walsh saying it in 1990 but not in 1985.

lol man, all you ever do is deflate any sense of optimism a poster may have. Honestly, is that the only reason you visit these boards? I can't imagine wasting my time on a Jets' board for any reason, much less, just to correct people.

I deal in reality, I have done nothing but praise marino over an dover and over again including here but in my opinion Montana is slightly ahead of him. is that bashing? It wasn't even about marino, it was about a stupid quote from Walsh.

I found the videos.

One is with Chris Myers and another on a Phone interview with Dan Patrick.

Jets suck so badly it's even a bore to be on your own site on the opening day of FA, eh nyjunc.

I think Marino is the best pure passer I have ever seen, but making Marino the system is why he never won a Super Bowl.

Even in this pass happy league, you cannot win a SB with an elite QB alone. You need a running game and a good defense. See Seattle v. Manning.

I have this incredible ability to be able to check both sites. It's rare and not many people can but I was blessed:lol:

Denver had a good run game and good defense. Peyton has been armed to win SBs for the majority of his career, if marino had the talent Peyton has had to work with he would have won 4-5 SBs.
