To some my title
will be like calling the kettle black.
Though i been hearing from some fans that
Moore is like Thigpen but worse
and i beg to differ..

Thigpen lacked pocket awareness
and often would take off
running when he felt the pressure instead of buying extra time..

Thigpen was less accurate than henne
though he seemed more confident.
Moore is playing like he thinks
he should be the starter..

Henne does have a different look this season
like he wants it more..
I feel like he has improved
though not enough to get us over the hump.

That 1st interception to fasano
while not his fault could have got fasano rocked
though fasano is way too inconsistent himself.

Henne second pick should have been a bit higher that grimes kid may have some of the best hops in the NFL. i credit grimes more with an excellent catch.

Henne could have retreated
into a whirlpool dung heap at this point
though he looked possessed that last drive and turned off his auto pilot

Henne had no place to throw
and ran for the 1st down quite gutsy
Sparano was screaming get down lol..

And then it happened
something we haven't seen
henne in over a year
a perfectly connected deep ball touchdown.
Not quite redeeming
for his prior mistakes in the game
but he kept himself
relevant with that touchdown.

Moore comes in next
and what surprised me is
how he felt the pressure and
made plays with his feet.

Moore seemed accurate and that second touchdown in back of the endzone to gates reminded me of tom brady.

Moore is not tom brady
but i think if henne doesn't bring his A game
sparano and duball
maybe quick to bring in Moore to salvage games..

I think they need to blindfold henne
and practice timing routes
he needs to work on his bruce lee instincts this would be great practice
for him not to stare down receivers..

Moore definitely looked better than Henne but it's such a small sample size.

Thigpen is a better NFL QB than Henne, though marginally. Moore is better than both of them.. marginally.

Thigpen isn't even close to Henne. What u blazing homie? Pass that issshh bcuz it must be good. As for Matt Moore he was supposed to play good. He played against a second team defense and he isn't new to the league. Anything less would've been a damn shame.

Moore's history is much better than Henne's. Of course we have to see what happens over the next few weeks, but to write Moore off is wrong in my opinion.

I think the coaching staff has a dilemma on how much time to play the Qb's in preseason.
Do you give henne more work because he needs the reps?
Do you give more reps to Moore maybe even start to see how he does vs 1st string?
Do you see what devlin can do with more opportunities?
Or do you say i seen enough of henne know what he can do and play all the others more?
Or are you freaking out and giving henne most of the reps to prepare with the new offense?

When you listen to sparano after game quick speak
he mentions all the things they have to clean up in the beginning of the game.
I was hoping to see more of devlin it seems like he was running for his life every passing play.
Devlin got sandwiched pretty bad one play next thing you know O'Connell is in.

I think by end of preseason it may not be so clear who the starter is..

I think Henne should get the majority of time with the starting unit. The offensive live played horribly too. The projected starters need a lot of playing time to work out the timing and gain some experience playing together.
I believe Moore can practice with the 2nd unit and be ready to play. If Henne fails to deliver, the coach and team will have the easy choice of going to Moore because Henne would have had every opportunity to lock up the job.
I would like to see what O'Connell can bring to the table. He might be better than Henne/Moore. Hopefully we will see him in the 2nd or 3rd quarter in the next game.
Devlin looks like he needs a year on the practice squad at this point. I think we should keep him somehow, but he is still raw.

Matt Moore would/will win the job in a fair competition with Chad Henne. I have little doubt in that.

That's not to say that Moore is our savior or the franchise or anything. No, he's just better than Henne. We'd win more games with him.

I've decided to rate the QBs performance on a 1 to 10 scale after each preseason game to help me decide who is better and by how much. I will base my rating on the average starting QB performance(not Tom Brady or Peyton Manning) cause that's just ridiculous to ask of these two we have.

After P1, I give Henne a 3.5 for his performance. He would have gotten a 0 or a 1 if not for some pretty plays to Hartline and D.Thomas (although it could be argued those guys did most of the work.) Aside from that it was the same old Henne, starting down receivers, robotic mechanics, poor accuracy. His throw to Fasano was not ENTIRELY his fault, but he must take some of the blame as you are supposed to lead your receiver not throw it to his back shoulder in this situation -- again accuracy issues. But yes, Fasano is a professional and should have caught that ball. He's a weak pass catching TE.

After P1, I give Moore a 6.5, again this is based on the average, middle of the pack QBs. He made some nice throws, He had a bit of happy feet at times but to be fair the OL was not holding up too well for him. He has fluid motion in his throw, and I can't really take points away from him for the INT to Marlon Moore because quite simply, the ball was placed perfectly for OUR receiver even though into double coverage.

One thing that I have not seen discussed is the type of ball Henne and Moore throw.
Henne has a very strong arm and sometimes that fast ball can be difficult to catch in the short to medium range if the placement is not perfect. If the throw is high or slightly away, I would imagine it would be tough on the receiver. He has worked to vary the speed, and it has improved, but under pressure to the check down guy, I think he can still throw it too hard. His advantage there is that because of the velocity and high rotation rate, he throws a beautiful deep ball. If we can get him the protection and get receivers open deep, he has the right tools to be the starter.
Moore throws like he his pushing the ball, similar to Penny's throws, but with better velocity. The ball comes out very quick and the velocity and placement that seems better on the short to medium throws making it easier for the receivers to get YAC. If we are going to run a short passing game style of the west coast offense, he might be better suited to this game. I think his deep ball is very average, but it becomes more easy intercept-able because of the higher ballistic trajectory needed to make the distance. That was Penny's problem too.
If Henne cannot get protection to keep him comfortable in the pocket to be able to not only make the correct decisions, but make the right type of throw, his inconsistencies will continue.
Moore looks unflappable under pressure, and he seems to react better under pressure with better decisions. If the Oline is still a work in progress, he will do a better job IMHO.

Moore is awesome agianst the worst secondary in the NFCs 2nd and third stringers - mark my words Atlanta is going to get scorched with that average secondary all season long they better hope they get out to leads with the running game... I couldn't believe they neglected their secondary in the first rd of the draft

What some people around here see in Thigpen is beyond my comprehension, every time I watch him play he is severely inaccurate and basically plays backyard football without the skills to make it be successful at this level. How many wins does Thigpen have anyways?

Henne is our starter and those of us that back him do not expect to see Brady or Manning we expect improvement from Henne, from our run game, from our oline and from having a new and improved OC. It isn't difficult to realize that if those expectations materialize that we would be a playoff contending team (easily). There will be ill timed picks, there will be mistakes but that's okay, it's only important that they are limited and that there are a lot more positive plays to make up for them.

The most important improvement that will help Henne the most is this defense needs to become a turnover machine, last years drops of east INT's needs to be fixed. Giving Henne short fields and more opportunities will naturally give him a greater chance at success.

Then you all can remember how many times our ST's gave up huge plays at huge times costing us a few more opportunities for wins. If this too only improves a small amount we once again are a better team but as you all know there is a large room for improvement in all aspects of ST's (except fg's, lol).

Majority of us that back Henne can see that these small improvements are achieveable by all aspects of the team play. I for one have zero interest in trying to make anyone else see our side because most here are blinded by what some posters say or have extremely short memories on Henne's abilities. Most would rather argue TS sucks, or Henne sucks and post how they watched a back up QB make 1 good throw so he's better then Henne then actually look at our realistic situation.
