Moore tells the Miami Herald he is auditioning for his next team

Tannehill has one decent preseason game. Let's all see how it plays out. Moore won 6 of 9 for this team and saved us from the garbage formally known as Henne. I think it's anyone's game and for Tanne to start he has to continue to improve and shine, and Moore has got to be ineffective. But we need a lot more than one game to see that. I don't expect them to decide until after the 4th game.

Moore and his 6 wins also saved us from Andrew Luck.

As long as Garrard is hurt and made of glass, Moore will have a spot on this team...at least this year. There's no doubt, though, Tannehill will be the long term starter for us and while Moore would be a nice backup, I don't see him wanting to play that role for too long.

Moore has to come to grips with reality. He just doesn't have the physical tools to be an upper echelon starter at this level. Whatever team he plays for will ultimately always be looking to upgrade him. He's a stop gap starter or solid backup. Nothing more, nothing less. Have him chat with Gary Kubiak or Steve DeBerg

This is where I have an issue with Matt Moore. I'll use Tennesse as an Example here; Hasselback knows he may lose the QB battle but has embraced the challenge. He also would do what ever he could to help Locker, IF Locker wins the starting job. Moore should have this kind of attitude IMO. There aren't many teams who Moore could really challenge for a starting position, except for maybe Arizona. I feel he should have Hasselback's team attitude instead of feeling Disrespected and talking about this openly in the media. I really respect Moore as a player, he gave me hope as a fan last season. I thought he was maturing into a starter type. He needs to stop pouting and start to work harder. He could be a big part of this team as it's main backup for the immediate and foreseeable future. Tannehill has the talent to start in this league, he has exceeded my personal expectations by going out and challenging for the starting job so early, I for 1 thought he was at least a year or 2 away. I just hope Miami makes the right decision, all I want to see is the future look brighter than the hope Tannehill as given me so far with his intelligence, moxy and savvy behind center. It's the feeling you get that someone special is making his way through being a rookie, with the hope he is turning into the Starting Caliber QB, Miami has been starving for since #13 retired.

I think you are wrong. No team is going to trade for Moore because they can get him for "free" as a FA in a few months which means that Garrard is likely gone.

Moore knew his stint in Miami was likely ending as soon as the Fins drafted Tannehill. He's being smart and honest about his situation. He won't re-sign with Miami because he wants to be a starter, and regardless of what Tannehill does/doesn't do this season, the Fins are committed to him starting for at least 2 more years after this one. He'll likely sign with a team that has a weak starter but isn't likely to draft a first round QB.

Ehhh, i think that once the season starts and other team's qbs start dropping like flies then you will see a market for matt moore.

Moore could start for Cleveland, Buffalo, Seattle, Minnesota, Arizona, St Louis, Oakland maybe, Jacksonville, maybe a couple others.

+1.

His cool calm demeanor can also mean he's level headed, doesn't let his emotions get too high/low, has no problem with what people think about him. He produced last season and I think he can do well this season but he's not the future. Hard Knocks has shown he's a good teammate, works hard, and is a family man. Not a bad guy to have on the team as a starter or backup especially for his salary.

As for the article it's basically a summary of Matt Moore's career and him acknowledging he's been undervalued and he's always prepared to play no matter his role. It doesn't phase him but he's made it clear he wants to be a starter.

And unlike David Garrard, who the OP seems to love, Matt Moore is at least man enough to take the field and EARN his paychecks. So you can run and tell that. Homeboy.

This is exactly what I was worried about with Moore. We aren't even two games into preseason and he is talking about next year?? This guy is not a starter and doesn't even want to try to challenge a rookie.

This is a great article from Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald with some pretty interesting insight. I understand Moore knows he is not the future in Miami & would might like to start but him saying he is taking whatever action as an audition for his next team seriously make me question his competitiveness, it almost as he has already given up at starting. This is backup talk & that is exactly what Moore has proven to be this offseason. If he really wanted to start he should have outplayed Garrard & Tannehill at camp & he has not.

I've said for a while now on my twitter account that Moore is to laid back & has this california cool about him I don't like, Hardknocks has done a great job of showing it. Moore lacks the fire a QB needs & this article does a great job of proving it. In my opinion he is fine with being a backup in this league & reminds me of Alex Morran of Blue Mountain State & this is coming from someone who really pulled for Moore last year & at times in the offseason felt Miami did not have to draft a QB cause of Moore's body of work last year. Im man enough to admit I was very wrong.

You question Moore's competativeness? Of all the QBs on our roster, Moore is the one you have concerns about whether or not he really wants to play? GET REAL Omar Jr.

Moore has given up at starting? How bout the FRAUD named David Garrard you love so much who withdrew himself from the race by electing to have minor knee surgery the day of the first game?

How bout if Garrard really wanted to start he wouldve put a brace on that thing ala Dan Marino, rubbed some dirt on it, and lets go.

You have issues with a guy that "you feel is fine with being a backup" but not a guy who is clearly fine with taking signing bonuses and going on home to chill out on his boat.

Seriously dude, its unbelievable how you can come on here and knock Matt Moore, question his character and heart after what he has done for this team, and at the same time always try and hype up a guy who has PROVEN to be nothing more than a fraud who was looking for a quick paycheck before shutting it down.

You really need to look at the situations again and rethink how you feel about those 2 players.

or maybe it's just that he's a realist understanding that despite his strong showing last seasn, T-Hill was drafted to be the future... and a strategic planner thinking a few contingencies ahead, as do most successful people in business and other professional endeavors. Ya think?

You know what. Now that I think about it, I HOPE Matt Moore is totally fine with being a backup for the rest of his career. Id love to lock him up to a 5 year contract to backup Tannehill going forward.

We arent trading him this year because Garrard obviously wants no part of the getting on the field and cant be counted on. Pat Devlin is a total scrub who you definately dont want as the lone backup to a rookie. So it looks like Devlin is 3rd string this year with Tannehill and Moore being starter and backup one way or the other.

So next year, Im sure Matt Moore could be signed be a lot of teams either wanting a solid backup or a decent starter. So why not lock him up ourselves? Every team needs a solid backup and I would love to have Matt Moore as ours for years to come.

However, I think its a long shot he would really want to do that despite what some seem to "think". That will be the proof in the pudding. If Moore resigns with us, then obviously he is fine being a backup. If he goes elsewhere, it shows you he wants a shot at a starting role. My money is on him wanting to sign elsewhere.

So basically, I hope Finatic8480 is right about Moore being fine with being a backup. Somehow I doubt it. The guy has desire and wants to start somewhere. He's just realistic in knowing we drafted Tannehill to be our future, so even if he is given the job of starter for us this year, Moore knows he is a stop gap here in Miami and is like he said "auditioning" for a starting role elsewhere.

When Garrard was signed I thought if Tannehill isn't ready he would have more upside than Moore starting at Houston.

Garrard is hurt again already WTF. He already missed all of last year and only made it a week into camp. What if God forbid somethig happens to Tannehill and he misses half a season or so. I don't trust Garrard showing up, I'm not sure he can make even make it to the field let alone lead the team for a good chunk of a season. At least Moore should be able to take over and might even do a job for some of the games.

How bout if Garrard really wanted to start he wouldve put a brace on that thing ala Dan Marino, rubbed some dirt on it, and lets go.

I don't think it's fair to compare similar injuries to any 2 players. The circumstances are always going to be different. I know you have beef with Garrard but still...

FinAtic8480 , I don't think you were necessarily wrong about Moore. I watched the last nine Dolphin games again recently, very closely. I wanted to evaluate Moore to see if he had the right stuff. His numbers were impressive for those games. Watching him, I saw a game day leader. I saw a guy who could make nearly all of the throws, especially long passes (which Miami hasn't had in a long time). I saw a guy who had the team and the staff fully behind him. He was efficient and could occasionally save a busted play. Moore may have a laid back personality, but there's no question in my mind that anyone will try harder than he does in a game situation. He is a fearless competitor. Moore was also well suited to Miami's offense of last year. As a result, I too had my doubts as to whether we really needed to take a chance on the number 3 QB drafted, let alone one with a top 10 pick. I often imagined what agreat WR or Safety we could have gotten with the same pick.

However, he did not yet appear to be a guy who could take over a game and win it for us when are down (Marino could do that, and hopefully RT can too). I've had my doubts that Moore could command the WCO, as well. While I think Moore could get the job done, he does not excel at it yet. Given time as a starter, maybe he could adapt. But we don't have the luxury of giving him that time. Given Moore's performance last year, he deserves better from us. But, a we don't get a lot of the things we deserve in life. The Dolphins as a team must move on and play the best player for our current offense at the QB position. Right now, I'm afraid that isn't Matt Moore. I personally think Moore has the ability to lead the right team to the playoffs, and I genuinely hope he gets the chance to do that. But this is not the year for him, unfortunately.
