In case you guys missed it, ESPN picked up the baton on the phin bashing on an "Outside the lines" episode. We were ripped from head to toe, but what really pissed me off is that they intimated no Executives or Free Agents want to come here, and avoid the organization.

We all know that we are struggling right now, but this went too far. I remember a line of GM's coming in here and wanting the job. WH just decided to go in house. As for FA's, we fail to sign Tait to a ridiculous contract because his wife likes Chicago over Miami, and suddenly no one wants to come here? What about Boston, Gordon, James, Edwards et al. I'm not sure what's going on in the media, but has a franchise ever been ripped with such venom before?

Definitely not. Thats just the way that it is. Miami is a hated franchise for whatever reason and the media seems to despise them more than anyone else.

CRIPES, look at our own media. I dont want to bring up the incident of last years debacle with Cole and Armando, but that is coming from the local media. Imagine how the national media feel about us.

I would guess that we just aren't used to getting it this bad. Teams like Arizona, the Chargers, and the Bengals a few years back, have all seen their fair share of criticism. It's a bit early, but I think the media just want's to jump on it now, and hope to say I told you so.

who cares. Let ESPN say what they want. When you lose you have to take it. When Miami starts winning they will shut up. If Miami doesn't start winning, then ESPN isn't bashing,..........they are correct in their analysis.

I hate ESPN as much as anynoe, but my god they are entitled to an opinion and if it doesn't agree with yours then just let it go in one ear and out the other. ESPN sucks.....we get it. Move on.

Everyone (media) likes to kick people when they are down. SD, Arizona, Cincy are all back, so we are now the leagues punching bag. Tho we have always been it for some reason or another- winning in Dec, making payoffs, but not out of the first round, Marino but no run game, Marino but prevent defense, etc.

I am not in Florida but from my perspective, we are not hated at all by the media. I just don't see the Dolphins being a hated organization like the Cowboys or Yankees or any body else. The only thing the national media seems to rip us on is the champagne toast by the 72 team. If anything right now, we are more the laughing stock of the league b/c of our off season. And it is more pitty than "you get what you deserve" kind of thing.

First off al I couldn't imagaine a life w/out ESPN. However I do HATE Salisbuy, Golic, & Sclreth (whatever his name is). I think there the biggest idiots when it comes to analyzing football, they dogged the Browns and looked what they did yesterday to what all 3 picked to make the playoff Ravens. Granted it's the 1st game of the season. We have to take the criticism right now b/c we lost and didn't look good. I hope everyone keeps counting us out they'll be sorry at the end. I think we have done the best we can w/what we had happen to us in the offseason.

Actually the guy who said the thing about FAs was Kim Bokamper.. Former Dolphin LB and local media personality...

Yep winning cures all that ails ya'. If we win and are our usual 7-1 or 6-2, what will ESPN say? 'Oh what a great job done by this organization' and ' this is hardly a suprise since while may not have won super bowls, this team is always a competitive team with a winning record, especially first half of seasons. Lets see how they finish out, that has been a problem over the last few years'. Dont take what ESPN says as gospel, that is their perception, do they spend sign amt of time analysing us? doubt it. They see the results and the offseason confusion and base it all on that. They can no more predict the future than You or I could.

What are you talking about? When Miami starts winning? We have been winning for the last decade. My original post wasn't meant to focus on ESPN. Every medium--print, TV, and the newspaper is giving it to us pretty good. I just wonder what the franchise has done to attract such scorn. As for moving on, you're not the boss of me.

It's the mighty have fallen tradition is over scenario I think. Look what the media was doing to Notre Dame. It's the same for us, undefeated, superbowls, Marino, lots of playoff experiences, but nothing lately. Then we get the rep for falling in Dec. Then, we have the Jay era, then the Ricky, and FO, horrible off-season. We keep giving them more to hate on, we just simply need to win to get everyone to change their tune.

In my opinion I don't think were looked down upon every year except this year the media has mentioned us when it came to one of the best in the AFC. I think what hurt our perception was this past offseason, it was a rollercoaster ride w/keeping Wannsteadt, Marino stepping down, changing Off Cord. and EVERYTHING else that went on.

I agree, it also has to do with the "fresh meat" syndrome. Nobody would rip us under Shula or JJ. Even DW wasn't ripped b/c we were winning. But now, the franchise is a new taste for the never ending, stupid 24 hr. news sports cycle.

I don't see a bias much in the National media. Here's really what I see from certain poinsonalities...

Peter Gammons - Red Sox homer.
Peter King - NY Giants, Patriots and Red Sox homer.
Chris Berman - will be circling his freaking Buffalo Bills wagons until he's 90.
Michael Irvin - It's all about his freaking Cowboys and Canes.
Ron Jaworski - will always be an Eagles homer.
Jim Rome - it's all about the Lakers.

Bottom line - all media has a bias of some sort or another. It just has to do with anyone's background and experience.

But I don't feel that the National Media hammers the Dolphins anymore then they should. If they did a segment on how screwed up the front office is and that they are scaring people away...well, yeah, it's mostly true if you ask me.

Just as it is with the news coverage, if you want to see fair and balanced football coverage, watch the Fox Pre-Game Show with JB, Terry, Howie, and Jimmy. I missed the first part of it, but I heard that Jimmy had some great comments about the Ricky Williams situation.
