More Intricate Offense??

Our offense will do good who cares what Moss says about the system.
 
I'd rather do 1 + 1 than algebra if both get the job done. Linehan had the #2 offense in the league two years ago -- if he can make that happen with something as simple as 1 + 1 then I want it. The complexity of Norv's scheme may actually be a DRAWBACK -- if the players can't execute it because they can't wrap their minds around it, isn't that a problem?
 
Norv Turner's system is pretty complicated. The Rams' system is probably the most complicated and it is directly derived from Norv's system. It wasn't the system that sucked here, it was the play-calling that was uncharacteristic for Norv, mainly because Wannstedt kept handcuffing him. And the play-calling last year, and the teaching, whoa that was pretty darn awful. I wouldn't read anything into our system being more simplistic. It is more simplistic because 80% of the check-off routes for wide receivers go one way...long. But that is what we like about Linehan's system around here.
 
Of course Moss' game plan in Minnesota was simple - Randy run a streak, Randy run a streak, Randy run a streak. It worked, so they did it. In order to make it more complicated all you have to do is throw in a hook.

Linehan's smart enough to know how to use his weapons. I don't see him sending Chambers deep every play because he misses Moss.
 
The question is: Is Oakland's playbook really more complex, or is it just different than what Randy's used too? I mean, of course he's gonna think that the Vikings offense was simple, he was in it for 7 years.

Don't forget the simple fact that Norv had the ability to make adjustments to his system based on well anything. Plus the fact that Norv was the voice of the offense even with some muffling from Wanny. Last year had two many cooks ruining the broth.
 
Our Defense was the simplest in the league until two years ago and has been consistently one of the best. We played man 90% of the time. It's about execution and having the right personel for that execution.
Defense is definitely more complicated now with tons of zones and zone blitzes from the 3-4 added. It will be interesting to see vets like Taylor dropping into coverage and Madison playing a zone on the outside.
Offensively, I don't know what is going on. We have so much individual talent at the playmaker positions (but not QB) we could see some crazy stuff like Ronnie playing FB and Ricky at RB in the 'I' or 'Pro-Form', Ronnie in motion to the slot, McMichael lined up wide, McMichael in the backfield...
My guess is that the playbook itself will stay limited for now and there will be lots of shifts to make it look like they're running different plays to confuse the D. As the season progresses and they get more confortable (and vs diff opponents) we might see more and more.
Personally I'd like to see more play-action on 1st down, esp. with the backfield we have. You have to respect whoever is back there! Let's just hope the QB, whoever that is, can get the job done. In my opinion, Frerote throws a pretty good deep ball.

But if the language is also easy and simple to learn... that is great news! Hopefully that will speed up the process of Feeley learning the new schemes...

Exactly. When I watched the Randy Moss interview last night, I thought that was great news for us too since our guys are learning his system. Linehan's playbook may not be as complex as Turner's, but it has no problem putting points on the board every week, that's all I care about.
 
Does the more complex offense mean randy has to block and not take plays off? Cus if thats the case, Randy should be badmouthing the Raiders O.
