I think it is important that Miami gets as many draft picks as possible in this years draft as we have so many holes to fill.

While there remains alot of speculation regarding Miami trading out of the first pick in the draft, the economic implications seems to suggest that such a move is unlikely.

The pick that may make more sense to shop may be the 1st pick in the third round. Hear me out on this...

With the draft format changing this year to only the first two rounds on Sat. and the remaining rounds 3-7 on Sunday the dinamics change a little. At the end of round 2 on Sat. teams will have a chance to huddle with their scouts and gauge the pool of talent that is left. There will be players on the board who some teams feel are worthy of a 2nd round grade, maybe even a late 1st round grade or players who will fill a particular need position. So Miami sits tight until then and sometime before the start of round 3 on Sunday morning Miami shops the pick to the highest bidder - the hope being that there is comptition for the pick. They may be able to get good value picking up multiple picks later on, maybe a later 3rd rounder and a 4th or 5th...

Just a thought on a slow Thursday morning at work....

I was thinking the exact same thing, and actually just posted about that in a different thread about 20 minutes ago, haha

That's a very good point. Teams now get a whole day to take a look at who lasted past the first 2 rounds.

That being said I like the changes that the Commish made with the draft, especially the time between picks. I hope it makes it faster and more interesting, because I do watch the whole thing, but after a while it gets a little stale.

I agree with you MM on this point. There's and excellent chance we trade down in the 3rd and/or later picks in order to get more picks. As bad as it is to be #1 overall (as far as trading out), it's a big advantage in all rounds after that. If there's someone we really want, we get first shot at them there. If we have 2-3 guys we are liking there and we could get one later in that round, we'll most likely trade back in that round and pick up an additional pick in the draft somewhere. Most teams will have to trade out of that round altogether and get multiple picks in later rounds, but being the first pick of each round gives us the flexibility of just trading back to another spot in that same round and picking up another pick to do it. I think we will be doing this at least once if not two or three times. The FO will maximize the number of picks we get this year in order to try and fill our holes with multiple options in hopes of finding that future star or even just a solid starter.

good first post

I agree I think the Picks you will be able to shop are the 2nd and 3rd. I also think you could have been able to shop the first if you are not wanting exact value for the pick.

I wish they would fix this rookie money issue because the draft was supposed to help bad teams not handicap them

Ive already mentioned this months ago...its too obvious. There will be some player there that someone wants really bad that is a steal and they will have to give up some decent picks IMO. Especially if the team picks way back in round 3. That is why I think JT should just stay put and we get some picks this way plus our two supposed supplemental picks.

I like your draft FF80 but instead of the CB we will get a TE and also we will get another OL.

The following teams pick high in the 3rd round:

3. KC
5. ATL
7. CHI
10. MIN
11. CAR

These teams are all interested in drafting a QB. If Woodson, Flacco, or Henne are available here and more than one of these teams has yet to select a QB we would be in an excellent spot to make a trade.

Also, consider were these teams pick in the 2nd round. ATL has 3 picks in the second round with the last one being the 17th selection. They seem to be in the best position to have a QB by the start of round three. The four other teams only have one selection in the 2nd round with all of them coming in the top half: KC (4th), CAR (12th), CHI (13th), and MIN (16th). Woodson, Flacco and Henne may not be worthy of a higher second round selection. If these teams see each other starting day two without a QB Miami would be in a great position to leverage the top pick in the third round in a trade. Also, because of where these teams pick in the third round the furthest we would have to drop in the round would be CAR's pick which is 11th.

I dont like it! I say we take someone 1st overall that somebody really covits like McFadden, and trade McFadden for somebodies first and a later pick.....by doing this you make sure that you get good value for the first pick, because you know the teams like the cowboys, and jets really would love to have Mcfadden. If you take him off the board you know Ireland and Tunas phones are gonna be ringing like crazy to see what can be done to get this guy. Worst comes to worst we get "stuck" with a dynamic runner teamed up with Ronnie, trade ricky for a late round draft choice and still have an early pick in the second round which is really a first because of NE. Problem solved I need to be a GM!!!!!

Nope.

It would be stupid to save the 1st round pick untill the second day to get a 2nd and a 3rd when you could get a 1st and a 2nd for somebody like McFadden. That doesnt make any sense at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If somebody covets McFadden that bad, they will trade up for him before we make the pick. If the Cowboys and Jets would love to have McFadden, then they would make a move before we pick.
