I've been reading quite a bit lately about people saying Mularkey doesn't like to run the ball, is calling bad plays, sucks completely, and lots of other things on our new coach.

Well... I did some stat gathering and found out a few things about him the real way instead of just throwin' stuff up in the air like a lot of people have been doing...

In the year Barfalo went 9-7, 2004, Mularkey was running quite a bit. They were ranked 9'th in rushing attempts and only 27'th in passing attempts. They also had a very good secondary ranking 3'rd in total passing defense.

Mularkey then took his running style into 2005, 5-11... However buffalo's defense was just horrible and ranked in the bottom 1/5th of the league in almost every category. Yet their offense still ran the ball when they had any chance to get on the field.

So anyway, we were forced to throw more than Mike wanted in these first 2 games!!! He is a running oriented coach.

I'm almost thinking the too much passing could be blamed on Saban. Linehan ran a lot with the Vikings, then came here and didn't run enough, leaves and starts running again. Same with Mularkey, lots of running at Pitt and Buffalo, but almost none here. Something just doesn't add up there.

in the first game our rushing attack was non-existant, forcing us to pass way more than run. It would have been dumb to run the ball in that game because our offensive line wasn't making any holes. In the second game I agree we should of ran the ball a couple more times instead of throwing a pass. I think Mularkey will go back to running more after thinking about it this week and reviewing the game.

especially since if we run more it takes a lot of pressure off daunte, and hopefully improves his confidence

FIRST, we need to be just as patient with the playcalling as any other aspect of the team.

I dont get how people can have any kind of solid opinion after 2 games. I mean, even after 3 games it would make at least a LITTLE sense because then their is a possible pattern, 2 games holds no water - no pattern no nothing.

does anyone really need to spell it out WHY we passed so much vs pittsburgh? Basically, the only thing you can gripe about is him passing too much vs buffalo, only our 2nd game...whos to say we are going to pass to much etc this season?

I think your on to something Cobra84. Maybe Saban does not want to wear Ronnie out until Miami had a decent #2 RB ready to help him carry the load. Lee Suggs had a good showing last week. Maybe this week we will see Suggs and Ronnie carry the ball 35 to 40 times.

Mixed results in second half of Pitt game. On the Dolphins TD drive, Brown carried four times for 20 yards and a TD.

On Miami's next drive, Brown ran three times for -4 yards and a fumble.

Looks like Pitt forced the Phins to throw and Culpepper didn't come through....

GO PHINS~!

As with Pittsburgh, I think the gameplan going into the Buffalo game was to throw the ball and get Daunte involved and more comfotable. I think it's backfired so far, I think they need to gradually get Daunte back into it, instead of giving him the ball so much. Last week we started out going right to the pass, Daunte started by fumbling the ball and giving up easy sacks.

I think they should have run, run, run, even if they aren't moving the chains. Give the ball to Ronnie enough and he will get it done. IMO they should do that for the next 7 weeks, get teams use to us running twice as much as we pass it will bring the D up and soften the middle of the field and Daunte can dink and dunk for a while then maybe by the last 3rd 0f the season we can start strectching the field.
