In the latest Herald article, he talks about not giving younger players a chance simply to give them a chance. To be fair to the veterans those younger players need to outplay or earn a chance at starting. I believe that's the proper way to go about things. Unfortunately Saban doesn't follow his own rule.

Someone explain to me why Lemon isn't starting over JH? He says that a young player needs to earn the chance to start and have played more efficiently than the starter. Lemon has done just that, yet Saban says that JH is the starter. The guy talks out of both sides of his mouth so often, I'm starting to understand why he's been so confused coaching the dolphins.

Has he not reviewed all of JH's games? He's played well in 1 of them, managed a few others and we've won despite him as many as we've won when he was simply managing the game. I know Lemons performance was against a prevent defense at the end of the game. But he was still 9 for 16. When the guy has had a chance to play, he's played far better than JH. Furthermore, why didn't Lemon go in earlier against the Bills? Harrington was terrible the entire game.

It's time for Saban to start practicing what he preaches. If a guy has earned the chance to start, he should start.

I probably wouldn't mind seeing Lemon get to play a little before the season ends, but there is NOTHING special about the way he played in Buffalo. He played OK. Your right, it was against a prevent defense, thus making 9 for 16 that less special. If you're interested in winning, I believe Joey still gives us the better chance. If you want to see what else we have, that's fine, support Cleo starting. But don't tell me he did something in Buffalo that should have turned heads.

Can you tell me how Lemon earn the right to start?

If you are privy to more information than the rest of us PLEASE let us know. If you've been to private practices where Lemon has clearly outplayed Harrington PLEASE let us know. If you've talked to players that feel this kid is who they want to lead them on a nationally telecasted game against a top division rival then PLEASE let us know.

Otherwise, this entire post is BS.

Saban specifically stated that they are going to play the best players. Lemon isn't starting so I guess that means the staff isn't half as impressed as you are in Lemon's play, which by the way there isn't much supporting evidence of his play for a fan that's out of the loop to have developed this opinion.

I agree if Lemon shows he should start, then he should start. So far he hasn't. No I do not think JH is great, but obviously Lemon isn't showing Saban that he is any better. Saban is practicing what he preaches, he is starting the guy he thinks gives this team the best chance to win.

Would I like to see Lemon start? Yes, I want to see what he has, but I don't think Saban cares what we want to see. He wants to win games.(I hope)

The younger players have to prove in practice that they deserve a shot at starting. By making the correct reads, not missing assignments, etc. If they show that they can do the same things as the veterans then they will get the chance.

I think we can all agree that Marcus Vick has without question earned the right to start without hesitation or any reservation or purpose of evasion whatsoever.......No?

Wow, that's a stretch.. Like you said, he was 9/16, FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR.. Why do you say he's played far better when he's had a chance, when he's only thrown 16 passes.. As you mentioned, his PT was at the end of an out of reach game where the D was in prevent mode. Cleo might be better than JH, he may give us the best opportunity win, I don't know and neither do you.. Let's leave the personnel decisions up to the professionals, getting paid millions of dollars, who happen to watch these guys everyday in practice.

Quick, where did Lemon go to college? Ah, I couldn't tell you without looking it up either. Quick, what legitimate game did Lemon excel in? Ah, I can safely say never. Was he ever considered a threat to start in SD or Miami? No.

So the facts are that not only does Lemon have any pedigree which great success in college, he has never demonstrated to any professional coach that he is anything but a third stringer. I would be extremely happy to be wrong, but I would be shocked if Lemon ever ends up a starter on a winning NFL team. Now does that mean I think Harrington is better.....tough call, but Harrington will also never be a playoff caliber QB either.

So we are left praying that Culpepper returns to form which is by no means a guarantee. Again I hope he does. But we better start preparing for the future by DRAFTING a QB of the future. Even if Culpepper is solid, he is no longer young and by age is beyond the typical prime of most players. Ideally, Culpepper shows glimpses of the past for the next three years and we draft his replacement NOW. I'm tired of trying to win with everyone else's retreads. Lets stop the madness!

He says that a young player needs to earn the chance to start and have played more efficiently than the starter.

Playing two drives vs. a prevent defense at the end of a blowout means absolutely and positively nothing. Nothing.

I want Lemon to start over Harrington myself, but making up some sort of bull**** reasoning and complaining about nonexistant contradictions.

Still, I'd like to see Lemon start just to see how he does.

9 for 16 against a prevent defense doesn't impress me much. Wins against tough Chicago and NE teams does and so does a nice performance in a hyped up team against Detroit. Saban maybe feels Harrington still has a chance to progress and wants to see how he can recover from a bad loss this time before he makes a change.
