With barely a month left until the regular-season opener, the Dolphins’ most accomplished running back sometimes still labors to walk, let alone run.

Ice packs clung to both of Knowshon Moreno’s knees, and he had an awkward gait as he made his way to the field to watch the end of Friday’s training camp practice.

In late June, Moreno underwent arthroscopic surgery to clean up his left knee. The original prognosis was he would miss four to five weeks. We’re now well into the sixth week of the rehab, and yet he remains on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Speaking with the Miami Herald on Friday, Moreno made no promises that his return to action was imminent.

“I feel good, but at the same time, I just want to be right, be real good, so when I go out there, I can just be full-speed and not have any setbacks,” said Moreno, who ran for 1,038 yards with Denver last year.

When asked if he expects to be back for at least one preseason game, Moreno responded: “I don’t know. I don’t know. I really don’t even know. I just want to take each day one at a time. They have a schedule for me and they’re just going to tell me every day what I have to do, and I just go out there and do it.”

Doesn't sound good, with him still having trouble walking let alone running.

I got reamed around here a few weeks ago for saying Moreno stunk of another failed FA signing, but given this news that he struggles to even walk at this point, I don't see how anyone could come to another conclusion.

Moreno seems like a great guy, but he wasn't that great of a RB to begin with, and he certainly won't help us with a limp.

I still maintain they should have drafted someone in the mid rounds. I can't stand to see another season of The Invisible Man (DT) in this offense

Gerhart should have been the signing, but it's a bit late for that now. I suppose this will be another year where Daniel Thomas makes the team.

I was freaking hoping Gerhart was the signing. Dude is the complete package at RB and has limited miles on him. Would have been a great signing.

I pushed over and over to sign him but for some reason the Dolphins didn't listen to me. I mean, how many times does a guy have to stand outside the GM's house with a bullhorn before he gets listened to? More times than it takes to bring the cops, apparently. :(

Lamar Miller, this is your opportunity calling. You can be as good as Marshawn Lynch according to Jets Boy. Step up now son.

I can't speak for you getting reamed, but in terms of drafting a RB in the mid rounds, I think the best decision was not to draft one at all in the draft. Early or mid rounds. While some of the RB's are solid, the upcoming draft is much more stacked for the RB position. While it would've been nice to grab a RB in this years draft, we're not winning a SB this year without drafting one of them, and we're not winning a SB this year even if we would've drafted one of them. The best bet was to wait for the stacked draft to grab a RB. I really don't like going RB in the 1st, but the upcoming draft is the year to do it if you really need to.

I hope Billy Turner turns out good, because Tre Mason would be our starting running back right now.

it's almost like they don't even care what you say...

Toby would have been nice but so would tre mason or some other rookie rb

We are going into 2014 with the same skill position players, except now with Landry thrown into the mix and Rishard Matthews showing more consistency in practice.

And a big fat question mark on the OL. Yup, sounds about right.

Willing to bet I could have done a better job as GM at assembling offensive talent over the past 10 seasons than the guys we have paid millions of dollars have.

Knowshon Moreno: what a great signing, guys.
